JR Carbines - Curious

I've been giving some serious thought about the JR Carbine as a new purchase, most likely in 45 ACP or perhaps 9mm. I've read a number of threads here about it and have noted the issues some folks have had. That's not really a deterrent though as most issues have solutions.

Oddly enough I haven't yet seen any pictures of them on CGN with a folding stock and a Google image search turned up zip.

From the pics I've seen on this forum and the dealer websites it looks as easy to do as it was with my AR 180B. Has anyone tried this yet or given it much thought at all?

With a barrel length of 18.5" and a combined receiver and folding stock mechanism length of 8 or 9" it would remain non-restricted, even folded.

Along with other front end mods I think it would look pretty cool and tuck away nicely in the front box of my quad. Any thoughts?

Thank you. I knew I hadn't researched it as well as I should have before I asked the question. For some reason I had it in my mind it operated much the same way a CX4 Storm does.:redface:

Still going to get one though, I do like the look. Thanks again;)
 
My information (could be wrong) is that people with issues are using cast bullets which JR recommends not be done.

Good to know fellas, thank you. I think I'll be going with a 9mm. Ammo is cheaper and I still have lots of it left from when I had the CX4.

I would double check that, there is a member on here using factory 45 in his and having a real tough time feeding it. I have one in 9mm, one of the first ones and it has been flawless so far and I run cast boolits through mine.
 
Well, I suppose there could be lots of reasons why a gun won't feed, but JR doesn't recommend cast bullets in any case. That's in the video on their products page.

I feed mine cast,wash and fmj home rolled and it keeps on going. I like it I have the Storm and Hi-Point and all work well.
 
Finally got the bugs out of my 40 cal JR :D
It's a shame some of these have feeding problems :mad:
The manufacturer was more than helpful resolving my issues one on one .
If you are a AR fan you can easily make the JR part of the family :D

Dag nab it! You guys sure don't make it easy. I just took a look at the Thureon Defense as well as the Gunblast vids and Heather's of course. For an extra $120.00 it is well worth considering. Thanks for pointing it out Vimy. And #1bcshooter, really really nice. Impressive.:)
 
The Thureon is pretty nice for sure and strips down by pushing a couple pins instead of having to remove the buttstock like the JR.

Nice build #1! Was it easy to mount that front sight?

Wasn't that hard . Barrel is .75" same as AR
Didn't use the AR cross pins as the 40 cal bore is a lot larger than 223 & the cross cuts in the barrel for the taper pins would have in my opinion been to close to the bore . I drilled & tapped the bottom of the site base & used a set screw that locates in a small indent put on the bottom side of the barrel.
You need to make sure you have it indexed correctly or the site will be off center .
But if you know what you are doing it's not that hard
 
have put 5000 rds through my 9mm jr with absolutley no probs even brought some newbies to the range and let them put 500 rds through it as fast as they could pull the trigger and as fast as i could get the mags in it, and i can hit the 2" gong at 100 yards with the red dot off the bench, is a lot cooler running and more accurate than my 582 series mini-14
 
I finally got my 9mil Theuron to the range today. I went with a guy who was interested in buying my 9 mil JR carbine. It was not easy to part with , because it is a very accurate little plinker, but I did agree to sell it.
I now have a barrel shroud for a 9mil JR gen 2, that he did not want.
If anyone is looking for one I plan to put it on the EE when I get time.
Why I kept the Theuron over the JR you ask.
It is much easier to break down, and the charging handle is not held on with a hex head bolt and lock washer.
I hope I kept the right one.
Only time will tell.
