My vortex sparc pooped out today :(

Dang it, my 2 week old vortex sparc appears to have given up. After 250 flawless rounds sitting on top of my JR-9, the dot has started disappearing after a few shots. Vortex tech support says this might be caused by a finger-tight battery cap...no dice. I've torqued down the battery cap nice and tight with a loonie.

Shoot 2-3 shots, the dot turns off.
Shoot 2-3 more, the dot comes back on.
lather, rinse, repeat.

*sigh*

At least Vortex has a good warranty, and the retailer I bought it from has already agreed to swap it out.

Has anyone else had many (any) issues with their sparc, or and I just the unlucky recipient of a "lemon"?

I thought mine was broken ..then discovered it was switched over to NV mode.
It happened a couple times where it was switched over accidently

Did you try another battery? I know it was fairly new but it could just be the battery. Mine has had a battery change already and I have only shot maybe 1,500 rounds with it. That's the only complaint I could have with this red dot is the battery life. I have had it on shotguns, my AR and my JR Carbine. Always keeps zero. I got new batteries from The Source. They have to order them in. Takes three days. I grabbed ten.

I had nothing but probs with my SPARC(s). The shop I bought it from gave me full credit for it (3 SPARCS later) and I did what I should've done from the get go; bought a Burris Fast Fire.

Kind of bummer b/c rhe SPARC comes with a little 2x Magnifier and looked great too.

I also have a 3x Vortex Magnifier I'm front of my EoTech amd it works great! But who am I kidding - its pretty hard to screw up a magnifier.

I grabbed one of those Burris Fast Fires on sale at Gagnons recently. They are nice. I got it for my Mosberg 590.

I hope I don't have any of these issues with my Sparc that you speak of. I haven't had any to date. What exactly happened with your three Sparcs?

The first one; would sometimes turn on. After I finally got it to turn on; once I started shooting the dot would go out. I replaced battery a few times - didn't help.

The next 2 wouldn't turn on at all. The store I bought it from is great! They called Vortex Rep amd were told that "they had a bad batch". Mine were not the only ones coming back; they had 2 more come back to store that week. I'm not trashing Vortex, but holy cow how do you get a "bad batch"? What about QC at factory?

Like I said, my Vortex Magnifier is great! And was an excellent price. After my experience with the SPARC(s) I get why Vortex has such a good warranty - lol.

Cheers,

You know guys; Vortex really are not "cheap" in terms of cost. I would say prices are reasonable. Personally I have learned that when it comes to optics you really do get what you pay for and the pricey stuff is pricey for a reason. My Burris and EoTech are great products (a lot of money) but great products that are extremely reliable. At the end of the day any product can "poop" out.

Just my .02cents.

Interesting. Thanks.

what model is your Eotech, mine is the XPS-2,just inquiring if any problem for co-witness. want to try this Vortex mag. thanks

I had similar experience with my strikefire. Not really impressed with the product, but the warranty and customer service is awesome. The first time my sf crapped out they upgraded me to the green/red gratus.

No way! Colour me shocked, a Vortex optic sh*ts the bed??? Wait wait, their warranty is tops so no need to worry right?

no kidding! these things are junk. i've gone through three in less than 400 rnds, and good luck finding a battery for one. Good cs though, more than happy to send you a new one every quarter.

You guys are scaring me! I am over 400 rounds of .308 with mine but still holding zero and hasn't broke yet. Wish I never read this thread. I am just waiting for it to give me trouble. As far as the battery I ordered 10 from The Source. They take three days to come in.

Some may last forever, others not. Their customer service seems to be top notch but I would sooner pay more for the piece of mind that I likely won't need the warranty or customer service.

I am slowly replacing all my red dots with Aimpoints for peace of mind. Just so expensive. I don't want to just have one and keep switching it around.

I agree, but peace of mind and quality optics are usually purchased once and forgotten about. Good gear isn't cheap although I wish it was.
