Cant have a non restricted AR even with a 18.5 inch barrel right?

Get a Tavor. A non-restricted bull-pup. Did the politicians miss that one or what?

18.5" barrel, can't be fired when the stock is remove and can't be converted to FA, it is a rifle that follows the Canadian firearm law to the letter, so there is nothing to miss.

There's nothing to miss because the Tavor didn't exist when the laws that restricted the AR15 went into place (see DeLorean reference). And it's not like IWI designed the Tavor to specifically exploit a grey area with respect to bullpup designs in Canadian firearms law; it just worked out that way. ;)

Yeah, I know that, just I that I think we need to get people to start thinking in terms of the "letter of the law", so that if they ever try to do a restriction by name it will be a harder sale.

There are tons of cool NR guns now.

5 years ago? Not so much. But now we have a pretty decent selection.

Buy an ACR and get a NR barrel put on. That's supposed to be the "new" AR, isn't it?

Isn't a AR restricted because it can be easily converted to full auto? Can't someone design a AR lower with a somewhat different trigger group(like a xcr)? Shouldn't that be enough to make non res?

No. It's restricted because it's black, evil and scary. Unlikely, because even if you redesigned it with a different trigger and recoil system it would still take the standard AR BCG upper. Or you could just buy an ACR. ;)

yes it is evil, mine isn't evil because it's an ACR, and soon will have a barrel length 2 inches longer which will make it much safer for all my neighbours and citizens of this fine city.

If you got an integrated flash hider machined into the barrel (say something like an AAC Blackout), it wouldn't even be 2 inches longer... I believe Herron did something like this for a barrel for a Swiss Arms Carbine.

That's who I will be shipping to shortly! but I'm not sure if I want that, I may want to change it in the future, I'd rather have the option, muzzle break would be preferred.

At the same time though, doing it the way you suggest would make me feel...... dirty..... like I was cheating... so dirty...

Oh thank god.

The 16" models are known to shoot babies right in the face for no reason.

that's what my wife said! she saw the baby killing look in my eyes when I held that 16.5 inch barrelled acr and said "get that barrel changed NOW!"

lol oh it's all fun making fun of these stupid laws.

Then go with something like the AAC 18T brake instead. What's not to want? You're saving 2 inches! There's also the reduction in weight, slightly better balance... I'd also get the sucker fluted.

Nothing's as dirty as inserting a 100-round drum magazine pinned to 5. Or for that matter, any magazine that originally had a capacity of more than 10.

How much is the 18.5" barrel going to run you?
