Cant have a non restricted AR even with a 18.5 inch barrel right?

lol 100 round drums pinned to 5 are amazingly funny. but then again, so are 5/30 mags...

stainless barrel, threaded, without muzzle break will run me $850 plus shipping back and forth. I guess that's the price to pay for a non-restricted....

oh ya, plus whatever it costs to get it re-classified from a restricted to non-restricted. anyone know?

Might as well; you pretty much lock in the resale value of it because it's the same length as a restricted...

It's funny, and I laugh... but then I load the magazine to only 5 rounds. And then I cry... and feel dirty. :(

Don't forget to get it Cerakoted black. Or gun metal gray, at least. It just loses something in stainless...

hmmm but I heard that the barrel rifling is whats measured for classification, I thought locking the breaks on permanently was only for US classification...

Nope - it's total barrel length. If the flash hider or brake is machined out of the barrel (as opposed to welding or otherwise attaching after the fact) you're good to go. I have a ported .300WSM, so this really isn't any different (albeit a bit more elaborate).

that's interesting... I wonder if Herron Arms could do this. I just want something that will work well as a muzzle break, dont really care what it looks like.

I was looking at a Knights Armament muzzle break..... over $500 :eek: ?!?! why is Knights Armament so expensive?? is the quality really that amazing? I have no experience with any products made by that company. I heard the ARs are a small fortune.

Yes, I recall that Herron did one sometime back (I couldn't advise as to costs or timeframe, though). The AAC brake is really awesome, and probably requires less machining than some of the others. The KAC Triple Tap is made of a unique metal which is apparently a real b*tch to machine. It's very impressive, though. And yes, KAC ARs are a bit pricier - but no more so than Noveske, HK, POF, LWRC...

KAC is the best gun manufacturer in the world; just ask what's his face that's a member here and currently works for KAC and he'll tell you all about it.

I'd say Knight is in the same league as HK, LWRC, POF... "best" is really open to interpretation, but they do make some of the best guns in the world.

Non-restricted FS2000... non-restricted Swiss Arms (by the time you add rails)... the infamous SCAR-16s... Tavors are a really good buy, but not everyone necessarily wants a bullpup design. There's always an XCR, but they're not as reliable or accurate, either.

Hands down, if you're looking for the closest non-restricted gun to an AR15 - that's the ACR. With the exception of the charging handle, the controls and feel of the ACR is eerily similar (and I actually prefer them, to be honest).

All good options in my opinion, provided you have the cash.

Like I said, 5 years ago there wasn't much to pick from. Now there is quite a bit. I hope that 5 years from now there's even more.

Get a TAVOR: non-restricted and excellent: amazing ergonomics, very accurate, little muzzle raise, short and easy to handle.
Ellwood EPPS has them for 2749 (others too). I know, it's more expensive than almost all ARs, but what a gun!:xes
