Well, the title says it all. My current 14 works great, 500 rounds through it and 0 problems, groups about 2 inches at 100 yards with the irons, but I love the ballance of the shorty. Can't justify owning both. Has any one done a similar deal? Just looking for opinions.

Don't do it, if you're happy with the way it shoots now and it works well, leave it as is. Buying someone's used M14 is like when you were a kid and you'd rent a nintendo game and start playing from someone elses' saved game, it always sucked, especially if it was zelda II and they put all their points into magic power but no health the levels with rocks coming at you with the big ass white centipedes would own your ass

Ammo deal is a valid reason. To justify a second rifle gets easier the longer you fondle it.

I thought having one of each would be the answer....then I was offered a new stock for evaluation from a very well known stock maker/ gunsmith out west
so I just put a deposit on # 3 ( another Shorty).
There are lots of differnt ways you can set these up .
Here is the 2 that I own now.

Yes a Krieger barrel on my Archangel would be great !! 
I am waiting on my new stock from him as well ...thats why I back am up to owning 3 of these again ...lol
I have all the extras bought now but still need a new op rod spring guide for it.

So I have held both / fired both short and long ...never thought to weight them, it has to be a couple of ounces at most …what is the difference

If your goin to go with a shorty, do it right and jab your barrel cut down and threaded for a .30 muzzle device. Then put a gas lock front sight on it. The normal shorties just.. Well look almost exactly the same as the full length ones, but with no bayonet lug.
