I am going out to get myself another ruger 10/22, and I want a compact model, so its nice & little to carry. I wanted to get a butler creek folding stock for it also, but I'm not sure if the overal length will be under 26", if its folded ? If it is, then obviously it will be illegal due to the length. Does anyone know what the length of a folded B/C stock is with either a regular 10/22 carbine or a compact model ? The compact barrel is 2" shorter in length, so I'm not sure if the OAL of a folded B/C stock with the 10/22 compact would be under 26" ?

If it is under 26", then I would just get a regular 10/22 carbine for using with the B/C folding stock....that is, if that combonation is not under 26" when folded ?

Also, does anyone know any place to buy one of the new butler creek folding stocks, with the built in laser ?

Factory barrel its fine. Short barrel it becomes restricted.

I think if its folded it was 26 or 28 inchs something like that.

The BC folder needs a bbl at least 17.5" to stay legal/non-restricted.

Most regular 10/22's come from factory with either 18.5" or 20" bbls.
I believe the factory compact 10/22's come with 16.25" bbl,
so it won't make 26" OAL with a BC folder.

thats kind of sucks if it wont be legal with a compact 16" barrel.

I'm assuming that if a compact 10/22 is used with a collapsing 6 position "ar" type stock, that it will be long enough to be legal ?...I believe most of those stocks have a mininum LOP of around 9.5", which is only a few inches shorter than the LOP on a factory 10/22 compact.

The Ruger SR22 will remain legal with a 12.5" barrel.

Its total legal its just not non restricted... It becomes the same as a restricted firearm so you can do it and call the cfo and have them change the classification on it you have 30 days to report the change in class of a firearm it might take them a few days to change it as well but its not that hard to do. I had to do it with a reciver and when I finish building my 10/22 I had to give them all the info barrel lenght, overall length, magazine capacity (for 10/22 i thought it was silly) I said I think 110 rounds something like that. I said it depends on the magazine I put into the gun I have several there all diffren't
