Some Anshutz 64 questions (UPDATE - recently shot provincials)

indoor range trip (PCMRA)

I shot at my club tonight. It's a little indoor range.

When I first got there; Joe who's been my mentor for this rifle tried out my trigger job. He said it was horrible. :( Haha

He trimmed another coil off the spring and adjusted the weight of pull again, adjusted the length of pull and the sear. What a difference!

I shot a couple groups with and a couple groups without an old shooting jacket on. I liked the jacket; my shoulder didn't seem to get so tired and sore.

The results: I shot a 93, 94, 96 and this...

a 98!

I'm happy. The rifle feels great. It fits me nicely. I think I have a total of about 110 rounds through it. That's a total of 150 rounds through target rifles with peep sights if you count my first trip with a club gun. I'm really starting to get a feel for shooting prone. I can't wait to go back in a week or two.

What distance was this? I've seen the 64 listed for $1200. Was yours about that much?

After he adjusted the trigger , does it still make weight for the sporter class, or will it jump you into the match rifle class?

As for the groups, I guess you'll need to do more push-up ;)

On a more serious note, you'll need to make sure your cheek pressure is the same, and you always put the butplate in the same spot.

This was shot at 20m.

My rifle has been lightened to meet sporting class rules. I may have paid a bit too much for it, but you win some you lose some. It was priced a little higher than what 190's go for.

The trigger is set at 2.25 pounds to make sporter class. He just shortened the spring a little more (due to the set screw being turned too far out and it may wiggle out and get lost). Then set it up to the same weight I had it at. He did wonders with the sear and the trigger travel though. Very, very short pull.
 
So it's been a month and a half since I started shooting 20m indoor target. I go once a week and shoot around 50 shots. (10 sighters and four 10 round targets) I started shooting the ISSF #135 sporting rifle targets shown earlier in the thread but now I'm shooting #134 match rifle targets. I'm slowly improving. Keep in mind, I still don't have any more than 500 rounds through my rifle in a target environment.

I can shoot 100's on the sporting targets fairly easily now. On the match rifle targets I'm shooting average of 96. I'm happy with my progress. I'm reading about target shooting and am happy to see that my natural techniques are very sound in comparison to what the experts say I should be doing.
 
Great buy, that Model 64 - much envy from over here - I have a '67 Model 1407/9 that you can see on the 'scoping an Anschutz' thread. A couple of things that might be of use to you

1. Anschutz make a a bolt-holder that takes the bolt and de-cocks it on putting it in, and recocks it on taking it out. Not cheap, but most of us here have one.

2. Anschutz make a dedicated miniature torque wrench for the main action bolt - the big one along the forend - and provide a set of torque measurements for each and every model they've ever made. Lemme look it up and see that yours might be. Again, as with anything from Anschutz, it's the price of a good second-hand .22 rifle...

I have just landed the same kind of deal on the same rifle. What I am looking very hard for is a left hand stock.

Update:

I shot provincials with my ol' Frank-Anshutz a couple weeks ago. I just shot 20m Prone sporting rifle and I shot a 591 with 20X on 6 targets. Good enough for 6th. Not bad for a buggered up old gun and my first year of target shooting. ;)
