Whats wrong with the SR40

So I have been looking at all sorts of hand guns as I am getting my RPAL after 10 yrs off from pistols. I have noticed the Rugers are reduced at a few places at prices not much more than a Norc. Are these guns horrible or is it because of the early issues when first brought out. Just curious as my wife and I are looking for some pistols and when buying two at a time, cost starts to add up.

So deal or no deal. Let me know
 
The early ones were subject to recall many years ago from what I have read. So any new ones you see now should be fine. I have an SR9 but the SR40 I tried in a store and it feels the same. They are an affordable gun in U.S. and here. You can read many threads here about them.

I think they are what you pay for. A bit squishy trigger -- part of it is the 'safety trigger' -- and poppy. Super light, feels nice in the hand; especially small hands; and very pretty to look at. Very slender frame. I could have done without some of the safety warnings and features. Obv with polymer frame you are not going to chop wood with it.

I think the low price is due to polymer frame, Ruger mass production and the market they are aiming it at in the U.S. It is a budget carry gun but full sized.
 
Ruger has pretty much mastered casting metal frames, slides, parts, etc...it's cheaper to cast. They probably make the entire gun for under $100....:)
 
I have to admit when i find a good deal on a used one i'll grab it. They feel great in the hand and shoot quite well.

Mind, i'll get 9, can't stand 40, its a bastard cartridge to me, worst of both worlds.
 
I don't like the safety, other than that it's a great gun and the nicest looking centre fire pistol Ruger makes.
 
A friend has one and he loves it. I've fired it and I like it. Id compair it to a M&P 40. Its accurate and simple. Prety much the same as the SR9... For the price you really cant go wrong.

Yeah that's what I figured, I myself love .40 cal. I can understand personal preference, and thats just fine, but say that. I just don't get it when people make blanket statements like "40 is an aweful calibre" or "40 is what's wrong with it" with no reasoning behind it at all, and they say this to people who are new to shooting and looking for actual info. Or maybe I'm just being stupid, I don't know. More .40 for me.:D

the only issue with .40 is the cost for factory ammo, usually 50% more expensive then 9mm... halfway between 9mm and .45 for the most part.

and unless your shooting IPSC the power factor does not matter, so usually everyone says Buy a 9mm and spend less money on ammo...

I pay $230 for 1k of 9mm, and .40 is $100 more per thousand.... so the cost vs reweards of shooting 9mm adds up quickly. (Ammo is BDX with free delivery by a buddy, taxes included)
