I only got my PAL a few months ago. Since, ive been pulled into the tacticool scene and spent alot on guns I can just blast away with (see my sig). But, I very recently bought a Savage 93R .17HMR on a whim. I literally read about it, went to the market place here and bought one. I got it this past friday and have shot about 500 rounds through it this weekend alone. I LOVE the challenge of longer range precision shooting and even managed a 4 inch group at 300 yards.
As with all things though, I find myself wanting to "move back" some more. I have an excellent area to shoot up to about 500 yards and have access to other places to safely shoot farther. 500 is my target though.
On top of all this, im married and my wonderful better half has seen ALOT of new hardware arrive in the mail lately. All my guns have a place in my safe and see regular shooting on a nearly weekly basis. So non can go to make room for another. At least not at first. This means whatever I buy needs to be relatively economical. $500 or less for the gun itself. The glass is something ill have to work up to. I have a decent bushnell sitting here I would use at first... i t came with another gun I bought. Id use that while I saved up for something better.
So, after all the explanation. I need to know what some good choices would be for a gun to suite my needs. I dont hunt. I may someday but would buy a dedicated gun for that when the time comes. For now, I just want to shoot paper at 500 or so yards. Id like to shoot a caliber thats easy to find and relatively cheap to buy... I REALLY like the accu trigger on my Savage and have been looking at some of their offerings. But im open to anything. I like a bolt gun and would prefer a detachable mag... but its not a deal breaker.
Can anyone help. Im quite sure im not the first to ask this question. So if there are threads out there that say it all, just point me to them and I wont waste anyones time.
