My brother-in-law just grabbed this one.
E-series S&W 1911
5" barrel with recessed muzzle, one piece guide rod, front and rear scaled slide serrations, checkered front and back straps, serrated slide top, skeletonized adjustable trigger (this one has a 4.75 lb trigger pull), extended beaver tail, extended thumb safety, reversible mag release, external extractor, low profile three dot sights, Engraved and bead blasted stainless finish, E-series laminated wood grips. Includes glass top display case and factory plastic case.

Nah, not a fan of those fish scale serrations and I totally hate the warning stamped on the underside of the frame...
But well worth the $1300 for a limited ed. Anniversary piece in presentation case considering that only 250 will be made.

and the checkered front strap, the serrated slide top, the slide cocking serration design, the laminated E-series grips, the barrel muzzle, the external extractor, and...
if you change enough things all 1911's will look the same.
Phrased another way: "it looks like a stainless 1911 with blued parts".
Funny comment about the extractor...even though I think S&W are the only 1911 builder that has actually got the external extractor figured out, it's true that an EE 1911 is a funny commemorative pistol. But I don't think they do a standard extractor at S&W, do they? Just a way to roll-mark a pistol and bring in some extra sales.
I'll pass on this one. Not a fan of all the scrolling/etching. But, on the other hand, I don't mind the front and rear serrations and the external extractor.

Just to be clear, it's not a knock...just a comment that they're not going to start up a whole new production line with internal extractors just to have a more traditional 1911 for the commemorative line. So if they want to do a hundredth anniversary model - and who doesn't? They sell - then that's what it will have.
Actually, even though I'm not much of a fancy scrollwork guy that seems like a very good price for what you get.
I was over to my Brother in laws today and finally got to handle the S&W. I didn't find the engraving overbearing at all. It's a pretty fine design that doesn't reflect a lot of light. I must ad though that the slide to frame fit is very good and racks smooth. One thing I did really enjoy upon disassembly, when reinstalling the slide release it slid in place with ease by hand and secured well which should assist greatly in not causing an "idiot scratch" on the frame.
The front strap checking also feels good. It's not aggressive but still provides a secure controlled feel.
I'm now seriously considering the Anniversary model also.
