hey everyone,

I can't make up my mind so I was looking for some comments to push me in the right direction.

Right now I have a really nice NEA with all the bugs worked out. (I nagged at them until they sent me new parts) So basically it has been flawless except for one major issue.. It's a restricted firearm

I REALLY want something non-restricted. I cannot decide between a Swiss arms (black or green) or the Tavor TAR-21. I love the look and feel of both of them but I am not sure what's the better decision. What are the known issues about these guns, if any? I would like to keep it forever so which would live longest with minimal repair? (with proper cleaning and care)

This was my first rifle so I have never sold a restricted before.. but if you owned this rifle, what would you sell it for? round count is 500-600

I give you 200$!

Sorry im broke its worth alote more! But you should really keep it! As you said it got all the bugs work out;)

O and by the way gorgeous rifle!

Both the swiss and tavor are great rifles!. I got a rfb but you want a proven gun so they should both be good choice.

Thank you for the kind words! I wish for a day rifles like these can be bought for $200 :p I love my gun but I can't take it out on my "future property".

I almost prefer the look of the swiss but the GF likes the futuristic look of the Tavor, I guess it comes down to the ease of maintenance

If this is the hardest decision in your life right now, you are my idol.

Life is easy when you're 20 :)

try to handle both in person before purchase. I have a swiss so i'd say get that, i held a tavor and didn't find it comfortable or ergonomic. ymmv

If I had to choose between the Swiss and the Tavor I'd choose the Swiss. The Tavor just doesn't "do it" for me. Can't really go wrong either way though.

I'm not sure what you should ask for your AR but I'd say for the loss you will undoubtably take, I'd keep it...no one should have just one black rifle :D

im gonna add something on top of my original statement to buy the swiss, keep the ar and put a short barrel on it. (like 10.5) so you have one cqb rifle and one long service style rifle...

Well you can buy at least 2 of the same AR15 that you have with the price of one swiss or one trevor....I thought of getting a trevor before.
But why not go for some other cheaper options like the Vz85 or Xcr?
I personally would not pay more than $1200 for both that Ar15+eotech

This is a good idea.... not too sure abt the Tavors, they look cool... and I hear they function pretty well. Handling the Swiss, it works great don't think I've heard any real issues with them, other than the lack of 3rd party parts and accessories (same can be said abt the Tavor though).

Down side to the Swiss, is that is heavy.... I wouldn't want to run a CQB match with that. Maybe a SR match, and it'd probably work out very well.

I think someone mentioned a CZ? That's not a bad idea as well, they're fairly reasonable so you could have both with out the huge price tag.

Keep your restricted gun!

And, I would choose the Tavor over the Swiss. The Tavor's compact design appeals to me & is the main reason I bought one.

Cheers
Jay

I slept on the thought and I will keep and treasure my AR, maybe get a shorter barrel (as winnipegger said). I will take more time deciding and hopefully have a chance to shoot more of both the swiss and tavor. Since winter is coming I'll throw cash aside each paycheck and buy something in the spring.
Personally I really liked the weight of the swiss. I've never held or physically seen an XCR so until I do it wouldn't be an option and the CZ is still a possibility but I only like the 7.62 versions and I don't have space to store crates :p

But thank you everyone for your replies!

The known factors of the Swiss and the Tavor is that they are both outstanding firearms.

Tavor, will still make you go and look for an optic as I think all the newer ones come as flat tops. So, you might want to factor in the cost of an optic into it too.

The Swiss, well from a negative perspective , you may read on CGN about how there are one or two that malfunctions every year, and this may cause you to lose heart in them.

Seriously, there are no negatives to either, they are excellent rifles.
I have two Swiss and one Tavor and they are on the never-sell list.

I've got several Swiss Arms and a Tavor. I'll never sell my Swiss Arms. I like both designs, but the Swiss is, by a wide margin, the better built and more accurate rifle.
