So I have been looking for some kind of gevarm for a good price for a while. Missed a few good deals on the EE, and then finally I grabbed one last Sunday. I saw it on the Epps site Saturday while I was in Toronto and picked it up on my way back home. Condition on the site was listed as fair, but one look at it up close and it was clear that Epps underrated and underpriced this one. Got this E1 for 150$. Looking for an 8 round mag soon to go with it.

The Good: Nice bore, 20 round mag, fair price, nice wood

The Bad: Minor pitting on exterior of barrel, a few small flakes of paint missing off reciever, refinished stock ( nicely done though), a few small dings in stock.

Seems to shoot pretty well and I like the open bolt action. Feeds ammo flawlessly and never misfires. Not quite as bang on as my 597 though ( accuracy wise)

I don't believe I'v ever shot a Gevarm. Is the weight transfer noticeable like it is on open bolt UZi's or Sterlings? And is the trigger heavy and crunchy like the above?

It is, but not very. The bolt stoke is short, the bolt is light and the recoil power is low compared to open bolt SMG's. I did a head to head 10 shot group test, offhand at 25 yards next to my Remington 597, and the Remington won. Im not sure if this is due to the open vs. closed bolt difference, or perhaps just the fact that the Remington is a much newer gun, or maybe that the sights are better on the Remington.

Either way, its still neat getting to shoot an open bolt rifle, which is a complete 180% switch from closed bolt guns that myself and most people are used to shooting. Its a very neat, fun little rifle and if you get the chance to pick one up, do it!

Thanks for the reply. It definitely is outside the norm. The 8 and 15 round magazines are odd capacities.

Gevarm

This rifle is one of a number of rifles and magazines that i imported from the Gevarm factory before it closed down.

^^Holy mags!! That's awesome. I thought I had a lot.

I have several Gevarms (takedowns) and even a Voere 2005 that is open bolt and shares a few Gevarm parts & characteristics. The Voere is full stocked and very accurate. My takedowns are good with open sights and I tried scoping them but there seems to be a little wiggle.

There is also a Gevarm copy that was made in Argentina and shares the same magazines. I have one of them which I bought many years ago in exc condition.
 
Here are a pair of Gevarms I had about 5 years ago, both sadly long gone. Top one A6 (I think, sights were gone) bottom one E1.

Neither worked worth a damn with the 20 round mags shown, but they sure looked cool!

They both worked fine with factory 8 round mags.

Here's hoping others will post pics of their rifles!
