custom dies

I have a turn neck 6x47 lapua. I currently use redding bushing dies BUT I need a custom full length die( under sized chamber) which doesn't do the neck. I would also prefer if I could use it in my forster co-ax press. Any ideas where to get this?

Redding body die will FL size and bump the shoulder without touching the neck.

That's what I use for my tight chambered 6br.
 
Canuck525 , have you checked with redding if they offer a small base bushing die or a small base body die .

What kind of reamer was used to cut your chamber that made it undersize?
 
How about getting one from forster? send them a reamer print, it's 10 bucks to have it custom honed. No need to mess with sizing the brass more then once.

Might want to try Neil Jones Products. Makes both threaded and arbor press dies.
 
As Ian said, take it back to the smith and get the chamber cut to die specs. Then you can use these dies for future chambers. Mark
 
Give Harrell's Precision a call. You send them a case that is fired twice in the chamber that has not be resized and they will match a die to your chamber specs. Not quite a true custom die but pretty darn close and the dies are only a fraction of the cost of a true custom. There is also JLC precision, Jim makes great dies from your chamber reamer.
 
Undersized chambers are from out of spec (worn or over sharpened) reamers. It is probably why you need to turn necks too. I agree that fixing the chamber makes the most sense. I can't help but wonder what else is wrong if your plumber used an out of spec reamer. cost will be about the same as custom dies.
 
Don't assume that all reamer makers actually make a reamer that cuts what the print says, especially when very few of us are equipped to measure them properly.

I literally laughed out loud when I read this.

First off I should explain.It is a brand new reamer and has only cut this one chamber. The gun is a 6x47 lapua and is incredibly accurate.I have had sub 0.1 inch groups at 100 yards and sub 1 inch groups at 500 yards( though typical is more around 0.2 at 100 yards and 1 3/4 at 500 yards). The body is simply a little tight and so my body die won't size it properly.They get tight on about the 4th-5th firings.
Because it is so accurate I wouldn't dream of touching the chamber.

I did talk to Neil Jones yesterday and will send him 3 fired casings( which have been fired 3 times) to makes the die.

The reamer was a PTG and when ordering I specifically asked Dave Kiff to make sure the body wasn't under-sized but that I wanted a straight 0.269 neck. This is the second time I didn't get what I ordered from PTG and therefore it will be my last reamer from them.
Last year I ordered a JGS reamer for another chambering and I will be buying more from them.

get ahold of the chou brothers they build custom dies i saw a newlon blank in stock ready to go. there called "secondhand" here

As for tight chambers see if redding makes a small base die F/L type S for the 6.5/47 if they do give that a try.

I have a tight chamber for my 308 and had to go to the small base die. it only tightens the base end more not the entire case.

maybe you're on to something with the tight chamber. if you can get it so shoot that well you are doing well. that 6x47L can be a finicky cartridge. I have built a couple.
 
I never understood the logic of getting a custom die for a chamber. A die will outlast many chambers. It makes more sense to find a die that you like and then design the chamber reamer around it and the brand of brass you wish to fire. That's what I do...

Agree 100% which is why I ordered the reamer like I did but it wasn't what I got. So it will be JGS reamers from now on for me.
