So I finally broke down and picked up a cz858 yesterday with my very disapproving girlfriend (financially disapproving) and I have 1 real question and 2 silly ones lol

My real ones is, is there anyway to test for the "gremlin" at home without loading the rifle and firing. Kind of "dry testing" I guess your could say? I just don't want to go all the way out to my farm to discover the problem haha

Second and silly as I never plan on doing this is, can you fire the weapon with the metal muzzle cap left on the rifle? Like I said I DON'T plan on doing this but I know in the CF we use plastic ones that in a pinch you can just fire away and they blow off cause realistically who's going to remember that haha. Just curious if any of you guys left it on or heard of someone who had?

And I can't remember my second silly question haha but thanks for reading. Can't wait to fire is baby. Figured crossed I'm gremlin free!

I recently purchased 2 of these, his and hers, no problems with either and I doubt the so called gremlin would happen on a new rifle, possibly only after several hundred or thousand rounds. I beleive the muzzle cap you are referring to is the guide used to protect the muzzle crown from contact with the cleaning rod when cleaning your gun. If shooting through it floats your boat go for it. I'd prefer to be able to use it. If you want to protect the gun from rain and snow you could put a condom or one of those rubber finger protectors you can buy at a pharmacy over the muzzle and shoot through that without damaging anything.

Forgive me for going on about this but my daughter, son in-law, wife and I all went for our RPAL's earlier this year and had a former military career soldier who designed the course for the RCMP as our instructor. Since he is also politically active within the firearms community he constantly emphasized not using the word weapon when talking about firearms. If that turns you on then go for it but my family group all chose our words more carefully when refering to our firearms collection.

Your first range trip if you shoot more than 200 rounds will tell you if you're Gremlin free or not.

You probably are, as this isn't some huge, widespread problem.

Hey cool thanks guys...any yes I know I committed the sin of calling my rifle a weapon lol still getting used to the way people react to such words civi side, my cz after all was designed to be a tack driver/ deer gun :p

Call it anything YOU want to. Being PC hasn't helped us a single bit.

If your carrier isn't tabbed, your rifle can have the gremlin. Pull the charging handle back and pull the trigger. Release the charging handle while still keeping the trigger pulled. If your rifle isn cocked after doing this, that's the gremlin. Now if and when it will show up when shooting is another story.
