Hey,
Needed some help on my first actual build. Want to be able to shoot at 800m without a problem and was wondering what round would be a good starting point.
If anyone can help with barrels, actions and triggers that would be great too.
Thanks

From the 223 to the 50 bmg, factory and custom, there are zillions of great possibilities.

You might want to look at the many project rifles here and on other sites like 6mmbr.com

More into better.

X2. There are many capable cartridges. I, personally, use a 260 rem with a Savage action and Shilen match barrel. Works well with 139gr. Scenars and does 800 no problem.
As we speak I have a Remington custom on the way. It is getting a 223 chamber and will be set up to run 80 to 90 grain bullets. I will be using it for targets and competition out to 1000 yards. Get what suits you and your budget.
Do I have a preference between trued Remington and Savage customs? Hell no! Whatever gives me tiny groups is what I stick with.
Be carefull with the advice you get on this site. There are some very experienced shooters on the site who do very well but there are also many 100 meter heroes who haven't pushed passed 300 and they really like to spew BS.

Like Jerry has stated 6mmbr.com has a large amount of solid info.
Good luck!

Perhaps you could make a list of those you deem worthy. :p

I am sure there are lots of honest 300 yard shooters on this site. This is not the long range only precision forum. Don't ya know.:D

Why would you want to shoot out to 800 yrds? Unless your an armed forces or police sniper, you can't possilbly justify hunting out to that distance. Don't give in to the hype about long distance shooting. If it is to far to walk to check targets, its to far to shoot.lol:sniper::sniper::sniper:

Cause that is how far the target stands are - Raton, NM US Nationals - all 1000yds away.

LR shooting is a lot of fun and F class competition is almost always shot at longer distances.

300m is as short as will shoot. Most matches are 800, 900 and 1000 yds/m.

Service rifle goes out to 500m/yds. Quite a poke for a gas gun. fun, fun, fun

Shooting at longer range adds more of a challenge by adding more dynamic elements between the muzzle and the target. Shooting sub 0.5mao @ 100m is no big deal in comparesison to shooting sub 0.5moa @ 1000m. I am driven by this challenge plain and simple.

Couldn't have said it better. The constant pursuit of perfection is what drives me to shoot, to make the next shot slightly better than the last. Making a series of precise movements and calculations, sending an object the size of a pen tip 1000 yards away with incredible accuracy sends chills down my spine. It doesn't get any better.

well it does get better, like getting drunk and waking up with hot twins :D
I just wish I could remember what happened between last call and the alarm going off. :D

Don't really need to make a list. The wannabe BS spreaders make themselves known quite regularly and are often called out. You know the type....

Wow! I hope your joking if not you are just as bad as someone who is anti gun and spews the socially engineered bs. of only police and military should have guns:rolleyes: There are individuals who hunt at long distance very successfully and are very accomplished shooters. f:P:f:P:f:P:
