243win

A 7o grain bullet is a 70 grain bullet, like all the same.
Use any load in the book for a 70 grain bullet that you like the sound of.
Varget is probably as good a powder as any.
 
varget 38 gr in mine, about .020 of the lands i have a custom barrel so it might make a difference. Coal is 2.610, ogive is 2.218 and case length seemed to like 2.016 with 70 grn hpbt sierra match bullets.

Very similar load: 38gr of Varget, Federal Match primer, 70gr BlitzKing/BallisticTip loaded 0.30" from the lands if possible.
COAL is 2.670" for Sierra BlitzKing (yes this is a variant of Sierra 70gr accuracy load :redface:)

You should know that many 243 Win shot more accurately with a 80gr bullet.
My 80gr load: 37gr of Varget, Federal Match primer, 80gr Blitz/BallisticTip loaded 0.30" from the lands if possible.
COAL is 2.635" for Sierra Blitz (yes another variant of Sierra 80gr accuracy load :redface:)

Both loads have proven ridiculously accurate of more than 1/2 dozen 243 Win rifles (most of the Remington 700s).

Yes i agree with the 80gr's being a bit more accurate. But i was digging through my shelf and found 4 box's of the nosler 70gr ballistic's :confused:
So thought why not find out what the 243win boy;s are loading with these little fellow's(lol). Hey old eagle eye you getting ready for moose season? I was loading them a couple of years ago with i think 40 to 41 gr's of varget.
I cant recall i guess age and a divorce will do that lol..But thanks guy's for the input.
 
Checked my data book and see I've been using the Nosler ballistic tip in my heavy .243 since Dec 93....And just like Eagleye said....
Few different combinations till I settled on 46gr. of Winchester 760.... Gives 3340fps. out of a Remington 700 with a 24" Douglas @ 0 degrees celcius and shoots about three quarter inch.
I also notice that a few years later switched to 46.5 gr. of H414 which gives 3350fps. @+2 degrees celcius and shoots into a half inch.....Still shooting this combo in the same rifle, kills beaver and coyote very well.

I have loaded the 70gr Nosler Spitzers with some IMR4064. I've packed in 42.5gr before I really worked the load to a 41.1gr. This gives me a nice tight group at 100yds which I translate out to 300.

Dave, is that based on accuracy or velocity/both?
I'm using Varget for that weight bullets. Is there much difference?
I haven't used H414 in anything for 14 coons ages.

I've found the Varget works very will with the 70 gr Ballistic tips. Nosler says it was the most accurate powder they tested for this bullet weight and type. Nosler recommends (and I've had the best grouping with) 42.0 gr Varget (note - this is a max load).
 
37.3 grains H335 with the Nosler Varmint brand 70 gr bullets. I use the max C.O.L. and trim with a Lee trimmer. Shot with my Savage, it is one helluva an accurate and hard hitting beastie. :D
