You Absolute Favorite Gun / Ammo? Newbi Asking

:)True enough. ;) I'm thinking we should start a club :p. My Schultz & Larsen does well on paper also.

Bit of a side issue but I got an antlered Mule Deer draw for Alberta this year and another Schultz will get the call this time. My model 68DL in 7x61 S&H.

In addition to my preference for Schultz & Larsen, also I have a soft spot for nice Husqvarnas. I've fairly recently acquired a Sako in 270 Win with Mannlicher style stock,;) which hasn't yet made it into the photo of my Northern European Connection.

And the 'Connection' below, from the top down;
  • Husqvarna model 3000 in 270 Win.
  • Husqvarna model 4000 LW in 30-06
  • Husqvarna model 1651 in 358 NM
  • Schultz & Larsen model 68DL in 7x61 S&H
  • Schultz & Larsen model 65DL in 308 NM

Nice collection Johnn!! Sure nice to see those S&L rifles kept in fine shape.
I Have a weakness for wood and blue rifles.
The upper rifle in my pic is also a 308 Norma Mag, a PH M81 "Classic"
Both my 308 Normas will shoot sub-moa easily, the Custom Gun will beat ½ moa on a good day.
Eagleye.

I've mentioned it in previous threads but there's a third S&L I one day hope to get. The 358 Norma Magnum. I guess just to have the big three 'items' of co-operation between S&L and Norma. 7x61 S&H, 308 NM and the 358 NM.;)One day. In the meantime to tide me over, I have the model 1651 Husqvarna in 358 NM. After Ted offered it to me and, I did resist until he sent me a picture, I 'needed' it. Now, if and when I do get a S&L in that calibre, I'd be very reluctant to part with the Husqvarna.

Nicely figured wood and blued steel is my preference as well. I can see the benefits of some of todays materials, and I have a very few examples, I still prefer nice wood and blued steel.

Excellant!! Even taking into consideration the high quality of your rifle, that's great shooting. In my S&L, my best accuracy has been with the 200gr. Sierra BT. The 308 NM is one of my hunting calibres that I'm changing over to some of todays technology bullet wise. The Barnes TTSX in either 168gr or 180gr, which ever I can get the best accuracy results from.

Recently returned from visiting the 'Kids' in Sherwood Park AB, which included my usual;) 'shopping trip' at P&d in Edmonton. Added a few more Barnes bullet calibres varieties and weight choices.

I am a gunnut. I do not have a single favorite, rather many favorites. I have sold previous favorites in the past and will buy new favorites in the future. I don't even have a single favorite action type as I have bolts, pumps, single shot, levers & semi's in my vaults chambered in rimfire, shotgun, handgun and centerfire. A newbie will latch onto a single gun (of late, some plastic/stainless piece of crap :p ) and it will be their favorite. But as time moves on, and a few grey hairs appear, one's knowledge of firearms grows. Then you begin to realize that ALL guns are equal favorites :)

Hard to argue with this....

I have an odd love right now for the Ruger GSR Scout rifle. .308 Bolt action with a 10 round box mag, awesome peep sights.

While out shooting some mid range rifles (470 meters), I brought out my GSR and managed a solid first shot hit on the 20x30" steel we had set up, somehow. No idea how, and didn't even bother firing another because everybody was so boggled I had even hit it at all on the first shot with a rifle not even totally sighted in. Sometimes one lucky shot is all you need to have an awesome day. :p

That said, it is a very good rifle for 1-300 meter offhand shooting. Really loving it.

My new favorite rife is my FN 375 Ruger. I recently restocked it with a nice piece of Turkish walnut. With its 21" McGowan barrel and a leupold VX II 2-7 it weighs in at about 9 lbs. This rifle really likes 270 gr Barnes and 81 gr of RL17.

My equally favorite to the above is my Brazilian M1908 in 9.3X62. It has a 21" Bevan King barrel and a Leupold VX I 2-7 and weighs in at about 8 lbs. My favorite load is 59 gr of RL15 behind 286 gr Nosler partitions.

My all time favorite gun to wander about the woods with is my Cooey 39
single shot that I've owned since 1969. It has accounted for more critters
(Including deer) and casual targets than any gun I've owned.

I gave it a hair trigger and reshaped the stock to my liking back then, and
have maintained it in great shape to this day. I still use 'er on a regular basis
and the bore is still mint. It'll go to the grave with me....so to speak.

But, I do have other favorites which generally tend to be the guns I have in my
hands at the time when hunting, plinking or busting clays. ;)

Sorry guys, she ain't pretty, but this set-up has done it all for me, and never misses a beat. The only Remington I will probably ever own.

My custom built Mauser lightweight sporter deserves honourable mention:
Early postwar FN small ring police action. C-Type broach cut
DWM Mauser barrel and bolt
Brno 21H European walnut stock
Fully glass bedded
Brno 21 trigger guard
Brno 21 floor plate
Vintage Nickel-Marburg 2.5x scope
