So myself and some friends once again ventured down to Bozeman MT to shoot the Montana Stake/Kruger Challenge this year, 4 day event, plus a day shooting Polson, and once again an AWESOME trip!
The last 2 year, the MS/KC has been shot at Gallatin Sporting Clays just outside of Logan Montana, and they really know how to put on a good shoot. All the targets are designed and set by John Kruger. We shot everything this year, my order of shooting:
Thursday:
Prelim: 100 targets on the main event course (15 stands)
12ga Hunter: 50 targets on the sub-gauge course
Friday:
Re-Shoot the Prelim (g/f decided she wanted to shoot it after seeing it the day before): 100 targets, except this time done with a 20ga on the same main event course as thursday
FITASC: 100 targets, 4 parcours, 3 pegs per parcour, AMAZING! Shot in a hurricane, but AMAZING!
Saturday:
20ga Sub-gauge: 50 targets on the sub-gauge course
28ga Sub-gauge: 50 targets on the sub-gauge course
Main Event 1: 100 targets, changed up main even course every stand was changed (15 stands)
Sunday:
Main Event 2: 100 targets, once again changed up main event course (15 stands).
It's not a cheap shoot ($175 for the main event, $50 per sub-gauge, and $135 for FITASC), but worth every penny for those targets. The terrain and scenery are fantastic, and they loved having us down. 4 of us went down last year, 7 this year. 216 entrants, 7 Canadians. I really need to pony up for my NSCA membership for next year, winning Hunter Class was nice, but felt like cheating.
I would strongly encourage anyone who enjoys shooting clays to look into going down next year. Leaving mid-afternoon will get you into Bozeman before dark, and it's a good excuse to swing by Polson and shoot at Big Sky Sporting Clays while you're in the neighborhood.
Pictures to come once the g/f gets them cleaned up
