These are back in hand and just as good as ever. Ruger's known for making extremely solid firearms and their SR1911 is no different. Their long-awaited entry into the 1911 field comes complete with the features of higher-end pistols including all-metal construction, extended beavertail grip safety, Novak-cut combat sights, tactical controls, and a classic stainless finish without the premium pricing.

I've handled a lot of 1911s and owned some. Working here I get to examine and compare just about every major brand from STI and S&W to Nighthawk and Wilson. These Rugers are extremely solid pistols with great machining and features way above their price point. Ruger's been heavily backlogged in production this year so we always celebrate a little when any Ruger product comes into our hands; we don't see these every day. We've had only one other shipment of these in the last four or five months.

Can you comment specifically on the trigger? I heard some recurring complaints the trigger itself wasn't a perfect fit and tended to rattle a bit?

Love it! Quality and finish was better than I expected, slide to frame fit is tight, and it shoots like a dream. I've put about 3-400 rounds of Norinco 45 through it so far without issue. I can see some mild chatter marks in the bore but it is one of the most accurate handguns I have so no complaints! I've had a few fellow shooters try it out and they are surprised that the stock trigger is as smooth as it is.

In the ten or so examples of SR1911 I have handled, none have had a rattle-y trigger. All have had a tight pull the first press out of the box because of the tight, to-spec machining, which is a great sign for quality, and the one we had up in the display cabinet upstairs smoothed out extremely, extremely well to a crisp and easy 1911 single-action pull after probably a week or so of handling. Exactly what you'd expect from any 1911, especially with Ruger's name attached.

I can't speak for every SR1911 ever, but none of the ones I've seen have had this issue?

Glad to hear it! I wish I had some real range time with one, they feel like they must shoot really consistently. :D I nearly bought one on the last shipment as I sold my most reason 1911 a little while ago and I feel a 1911 shaped hole in my collection now...

Bought one of these for my wife recently, Dan thanks for the great service!

She has smaller hands so I ordered a shorter trigger, also stoned the sear with an Ed Brown jig and stoned/polished the rest of the internals (probably did the hammer hooks also). The trigger breaks very clean at about 3 1/2 lbs, could have gone lighter as I am a trigger snob but she is not near as particular about the trigger. A couple of range sessions ago she shot a few groups offhand at 25 meters, a couple of five shot groups around 4 1/2" and one five shot group at 2 1/2". (mildly loaded 200g LSWC)

If I had a complaint about her SR1911 it would be that the slide seems a bit loose, but if she shoots it that well I'm not sure it's a problem :)

Thanks guys, received mine in the mail today. Nicely fitted and finished pistol--can't wait to wring it out at the range. I am pleased with it and your service.
