Can we buy bullets/brass from the USA?

I've been searching the internet for good prices on bullets and brass for reloading in the USA since our Canadian dollar is doing so good right now.

I'm starting to reload 300 Weatherby Mag and I'm finding it's a tough caliber to find brass and bullets for. I found a website in the USA that is charging $25 less per box of 50 new nosler brass cartridges than what I can get them here locally for.

When I buy stuff from the USA I usually get it shipped to the USA side of the border at a package shipping place, then I go there, pick it up and cross the stuff back over to our side myself and pay the usual tax and sometimes duty on the stuff to the Canadian border people.

I'm wondering if we can do that with reloading supplies too or is it illegal to bring unloaded bullets, casings, and reloading supplies over the border?
If it is legal to do it, is there a big deal in doing it such as needing to fill out tons of paper work, etc?
 
You cannot do this, legally.
It is US export regs that will get you.
Homeland security will love to house you for a long time if you get caught.

An export permit is required from the US authorities to export bullets, brass, primers, or powder out of the USA. The costs are prohibitive unless you intend to import a very expensive amount of components. By the way, Canadians won't be issued export permits.
 
Only if you do the paperwork, export out of the US is control and you need export permits. As stated unless you do lots not worth it.
 
Thanks for the quick replies guys. Well that's really crappy. I can't believe the lower prices for bullets and brass in the USA compared to here.
Ya I know they have to ship it here and do the paper work etc. but still the difference in price is ridiculous.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find the best prices for bullets and brass here in Canada?
I was at Wholesale Sports in Langley, BC today and they had a very poor selection of in stock reloading stuff for the 300 Weatherby. They only had very expensive Nosler brass, only one type of Barnes .30 cal bullet in the grain I was looking for, and none of the powder I was looking for. I also wanted a bore sighting laser and they were sold out of that along with being sold out of a few archery items my daughter wanted.

It looks like I'll be internet shopping for a lot of reloading items.
 
You can mail order bullets & brass from the States. You just have to find a seller that is willing to do the U.S export paperwork, & you have to do the Canadian import paperwork. Reloading International is one company that I have used to get brass & bullets. They charge 10% of the order to do the U.S export paperwork, & help you to file the Canadian import paperwork. Not really as hard as it all sounds. Doing it without the U.S export permit is just asking for trouble. You may get away with it, but worst case you will spend some time courtesy of Uncle Sam in one of their fine jails, & may become persona non grata. Not something I would consider just to save a few dollars.

If you're in Langley you can't do better than with Henry at Budget Shooter Supply. He's in Port Kells (south of the #1) and you can order stuff through his website and pick it up without paying a shipping charge. He's one of the most respected sponsors on CGN and a total stand-up guy. If he doesn't have what you want he can order most things in. I get all my Barnes TTSX bullets through him - cheaper than Nosale Sports.

I don't get it.:confused: I never had to purchase supplies from the states. Here in my own country there are many retailers that offer reloading supplies........you just have to shop around for the best prices. Further, if I went stateside to retreive supplies in a personal mail box, I would more likely go shopping at the nearest supply store. I always support Canadian retailers first and foremost.:D

These guys have supplied me with bulk buys of odd calibre pistol bullets, [ eg 7.65 x 93 grain jacketed], for a couple of years and at very reasonable prices. Highly recommended...
