$60/1000 Shotgun Primers? WTF??

I haven't reloaded shotshells for decades. I go into WSS in Calgary today to pick up 1000 CCI 209's to get started again and they don't have any. They do have Winchester's, so I ask how much. $60/1000 sez the guy. :eek: After I recovered my jaw from the floor I told him to keep them and walked out.

Is this the going rate for 209's these days? Last time I bought large pistol primers they were $33/1000 (at the same WSS). This seems way out of line to me, but maybe I am just out of touch...

Any help on this?

bass pro wants like $80 as far as I remember. Le baron has them for $40 I believe, and I wouldnt pay more than that
 
if your are poor you can reprime old shotshell primers with a small pistol primer.
This was common during WW2 and up until the 60's when people started having a better level of disposable income.
 
Last time I picked up 1000 CCI 209M magnum primers it was I believe $45. Regular non-magnum primers run $35-40 but I'm not 100% sure. $60 does seem really steep but I guess it depends on the region.
 
Unfortunately that is the going rate down here also $55-60. Bag of lead is the one that gets me. 7 years ago I bought it for 17.00 a bag now 50 plus.
Now you see why guys say it is not worth reloading 12 or 20ga any more when you can buy wally mart promo for the same price or cheaper.
 
Years ago I used to load all my 12 ga. ammo when I shot shotguns on a regular basis but component prices especially lead shot pretty much put that to a halt. Don't get me wrong I still have enough components stashed back form years ago to load up about 500 rds. but it's just cheaper to buy preloaded ammo at the local WalMart in the 100 rd. bulk pak. at the moment for general purpose hunting.

I am loading light slug loads for plinking, those aren't available at any price (that I know of, I am not just looking for reduced recoil ammo). I agree on the rest, it just isn't worth it to load anything else at the price of commercial ammo and components.

its even cheaper to buy 250 round flats than walmart 100 bulk packs.

anyone who reloads shot has a cheap or free supply of lead because otherwise they are reloading at a loss

slugs and buckshot on the other hand, now thats a different story. nothing but huge savings

Henry at Budget Shooter Supply does rock doesn't he? I just got my first order from him today. I'm impressed with the low prices on everything, low shipping cost especially considering I got gunpowder in the order, and great service! I definitely will be dealing with him again. :D
