I'm wanting to reach out a bit with my .223 and was wondering if any of you had a favorite recipe you could share with me. I'm shooting a tikka t3 varmint with a 1 in 8 twist 24" barrel. I was thinking 69gr match kings. What are you guys shooting?

I have a 1/9 twist and it hates 69gr smk's it seems to stabilize the berger 77gr though I have to test those more. I still have 68gr hornady match to try out.

I to like the hornady amax. They are cheaper and in my rifle they shoot better than bergers and lapua. I am pretty happy with 25 Grains of Varget and 75 grain amax.

I shoot the 75 hornady bthp over varget and/or H4895 out to 600 yards. My rifle didn't like the AMAX as well. I have played with the 75 BTHP out to 800 yards. I don't compete (no time) but I had no trouble hitting a 5 gallon pail at that distance

whats your twist?? I too, am looking to shoot heavier bullets and play with distances similar to yourself!

I used to shoot fullbore competition out to 1000 yards with the 77 gr Scenars or 75 gr Amax with Vitavouri 550 for max velocity. Varget is good too and much cheaper but not quite the accuracy or velocity I got with the VV 550 in a 30 inch 1/8 barrel.

The 223 can do extremely well at long range, reading the wind is the whole game

I tried vv550 with mixed results, mainly for 90g Bergers, using the Lapua 77's as a control. I think vv540, or even vv530, would produce better results, especially with the 77 Scenars.
