Hello everybody, I was just wondering what mags you use for your ruger 10/22, what the capacity is on them and are we allowed to use the ruger factory BX-25 mags?:ar15:

What are the Bx mags? Rimfire has no capacity limit for mags so shove in as many can fit. Unless its restricted of course then you can only have 10, heaven forbid...

Wrong. Rimfire rifles have no mag capacity restrictions regardless of their classification. The BX25 mags are now prohibited for import but some folks have them. Butler Creek steel lips are the gold standard, but Tactical Innovations magazines are premium quality.

Ruger BX25 mags are on the prohibited list for the simple reason that the packaging lists them as an accessory for the 10/22 Rifle and the Charger rimfire pistol.
Because the magazine can be used in a rimfire "pistol" it is prohibited in CanaDuhh. As long as the package lists it as an accessory for the 10/22 and does not mention the pistol (as is the case with Butler Creek) then you're OK.

No one here has completely answered your questions:

Butler Creek steel lips are indeed the gold standard.

Rimfire rifles (regardless of action type) have no magazine limits.

Rimfire pistols are limited to ten rounds.

This is why someone said restricted is limited to ten. While all rimfire pistols are restricted and limited to 10 rounds, not all restricted rimfires are pistols.

I'll say it again.

Rimfire rifles, regardless of action type or classification, have no capacity limit. Handguns, both rimfire and centre-fire, are limited to 10.

Now, the BX-25 magazine with its full 25 round capacity is a prohibited device. In order for this magazine to be legal, it must be limited to 10. Why? Because ruger advertises it as a dual purpose pistol/rifle magazine (fits the 10/22 and the charger pistol). The RCMP therefore regards the magazine as a pistol magazine and it must be limited to 10.

The Butler Creek mags are advertised as rifle magazines only, and are therefore treated as rimfire rifle magazines (unlimited capacity).
