I have developed a cartridge deflector (patent pending) for the top ejection Winchester model 1894 (pre '82) that allows the mounting of the scope on top in the conventional manner. Full cartridges and empty shell casings are ejected in a similar fashion to the '94 Angle Eject models. The deflector attaches using existing screw holes in the same way as the side-mount scope bases are attached. See-thru scope mounts are used as is common with the '94 AE.

I, like a lot of '94 owners, am getting to the point where iron sights are not dependable and in fact in poor light, useless. Combine this with the longer distances brought on by the LeverEvolution ammunition and I need a scope. My dad gave me my gun (30/30) when I was fourteen and it's been my constant hunting companion for almost 50 years, so buying a new gun was out of the question.

The deflector should be about $22 and the mounts and bases about $30.

I am using a Bushnell Banner 4X scope, about $100. You don't need more power than that for this gun.

I would appreciate your comments.

So if you are using the Angle Eject bases, does the top of the action need to be drilled and tapped on a non-AE? Will the deflector work without using see-through rings?

Yes the gun has to be tapped (about $40). You don't have to use see-thru rings, but you have to have to have a certain amount of height for clearance.

I am experimenting with lower mounts. Can probably go quite a bit lower. If you offset the scope 1/8th inch or so from centerline you can go considerably lower.
