What Will He Score?

Went out for another country drive to watch the fall harvest.................sure going to be another bumper crop with canola, barley and wheat.

Managed to spot big boy at a distance. He sure loves heating canola. Mother nature telling him to fatten-up for the upcoming rut and winter.

As long as no other hunters with draws get onto that buck, I really like your sons chances!

Well there are 20 other people with mule buck tags.

Breakdown

12 Tags - Landowners
4 Tags - Outfitters
5 Tags - The rest of the province

My son has had good luck this year with his mule buck draw, however; he received the really big tag by drawing for the Rocky Mountain Billy Goat in southern Alberta. In theory, it should be a fun year this fall.

Yeah the second one is also so much prettier. I'm having a hard time waiting till opening day! Hopefully he shows himself during shooting light, but they don't get that big by being stupid.

Well I found big boy in hardhorn this evening and think that I over estimated his score. Initially I scored him 190 gross B&C while he was in velvet, now in hardhorn I will have to knock him down to 178 B&C gross.

I guess we will have to leave him as a contingency buck and look for something bigger. Oh well, we have several weeks before November 7th arrives for the rifle opener.

Yeah, better walk away, that would suck to shoot a 178 inch deer!

Seriously for a guy out east, that is a tremendous buck! I wish you and your son good luck even if you look for something bigger!

Okay peeps, here's another pretty good lucking buck. Pretty much any Alberta whitetail, with this type of side profile will be high 160's and maybe top the B&C minimum. If this deer has a 20" wide rack, he's either record book or just under.

Whatya think!?

P.S. This is the only pic I have of this deer. I've gotta get out there and swap out memory cards on this camera!

Edit to add: When I zoom on this pic, he's got G2, G3 & G4's that look to match perfectly side-to-side and he's got G5 points on each side. Looks like the right side G5 is bigger than the left side.
