Picatinny rail vs 2 pieces bases

Its a single solid mount instead of 2 individual mounts, cant mount the scope on it "crooked" if you will... Ive always been told its a more durable mount... Im sure others will chime in but this is just what Ive always been told

A single piece rail allows a variety of optics to be used and can provide higher clearance than rings and bases. It also gives you more range in chosing where on the rifle to mount your optic. This is especially handy with some very small or very large scopes.

Two piece bases with rings allow lighter weight, lower profile mounting of scopes, without the ease of adaptability.

Two pc bases are available in 20 MOA adjust-they are very "high". I don't like the look of a picatinny rail on a hunting rifle, just my preference. Depending on your rifle manufacturer, you can get one piece bases/rings, even with the 20 MOA adjust (e.g. Warne).

Is it a good thing to use a picatinny rail in aluminium with a 308win? The steal rail are very expensive.

Given the info you have, I would buy the aliuminum for the $$$ savings and for the weight savings. I do not see an advantage to steel over aluminum. However...

It may be worthwhile to consider that there are also different grades of steel and aluminum. It is impossible make highly technical choices when the options are merely aluminum or steel. With just this information, I can only speculate...

If it was 1095 steel vs 7075T6 Aluminum, I would take the aluminum.

If it was O1 VS 2024T4, the tool steel would win every time. But I have a hard time imagining the shop that can produce tool steel bases at an affordable price. Because then we need to consider tempering or heat treating... (Sheesh... Did you say the aluminum one was cheaper?)

That is possibly the source of the price difference between the bases you have seen. Of course, brand name is just as likely to be the cause.

What's the best 20MOA picatinny mount for a Remington 700 5R? I've found some between $50-200. Don't want to blow the bank but don't want to cheap out either.

And where in Canada can I get one?

If your sheep hunting get tallys ... any other kind of hunting ... leupold rail and rings, i prefer night force, or badger ordinance. Alberta Tactical will sell you good ####, so will hirsh precision.
