When I was tossing around the idea of buyng a CZ858 one of my buddies said to me:

"Do it. They're totally awesome. AK style rock-in mags, plus you can load them from stripper clips like an SKS."

So I finally figured I'd try out the whole stripper clip into a removable mag trick. Here's what I got:

I know there's a lot of guys out there who love the Cz/Vz and use it exclusively as they're "scary lookin" gun.

To the guys who have more experience than me with this platform: do you ever reload from strippers? Do you have any advice to make it faster or (more importantly) more reliable?

Also: Hustler is another good magazine to find strippers in. You're welcome.

After I'm done shooting my last magazine, I usually use the strippers to reload the last magazine, pop it out, insert an empty magazine, reload using stripper, repeat etc, until all of my magazines are full again. I usually shoot 200-400 rounds per shooting session so this really helps out with the pain one would get from hand loading every single round.

I do on occasion as I have many more stripper clips than I do 858 mags. The problem I've found is due to the stupid ass pin in our magazines, it makes it a bit hard to smoothly load the magazine with a stripper clip - I think the clip needs some room to fluidly is the word I'd use, strip the rounds off the clip and put them in the magazine. However, due to the pin it doesn't really get enough to room to load the mag in a smooth fashion some, if not most of the time. This leads to some frustration at times. Most of the girls I take shooting can't charge an 858 with stripper clips, while they have no issues doing it with my five SKS rifles. I don't think the 858 likes pinned mags, can't blame it, neither do I! The SKS is a bit more forgiving with the pin.

I came to this conclusion when I told a friend of mine who lives in the US and have a Vz. 58 that it's hard to load with stripper clips. He said "What're you talking about, no it isn't!" After some discussion, we came to the conclusion that the rivet in our mags up here in Canada (which being in Michigan he doesn't need to deal with) prevent it from being done smoothly most of the time.

So that's my two cents, which is worth about two cents.

Also, I really like your videos, makes me want a Tavor! If only I was rich.

What happened during the jam?? Did it clear easily?? I use the strippers to load my CZ, and my m14, I have lots of mags too.

@Chiko! That is damn smart. Because I've zoned out while hand loading and done that thing where the 3rd round slips forward and hangs on the front of the mag. "Reverse loading" by using stripper clips is something I'll be doing next time I'm out!

@Andurp: That's a good point about the mag setup. I wonder if loading into a factory 5 rounder would be any different? I doubt it really, but I keep looking for a reason to buy one of those little guys.

Glad you like the vids! one of the main reasons I picked up an 858 is so I can give it to the girl when we're out and I can keep the Tavor safely in my hands. :p

@Matty Tac: I screw around with it for another 5 seconds, strip the mag and the offending round, curse a little, and decide to try the drill again.

I've heard people say this in reference to the SKS. And in fact I think I saw a video from somebody out in Ontario just killing a stripper-reload on a Tula, but I'm not sure.

Every time I reload my stripper dispenser the police come looking for me, and let's not even talk about the killing....

Now to actually contribute to the discussion

A mad minute with stripper clips.

You've totally gone over to the dark side man...

I swear Blaxsun! Its a passing fancy! The 858 is just a whore to me! A cheap whore thats lots of fun to play with now and again!

:D

I'm actually getting more and more pressure daily to do a "full review" on the Tavor. Whatever that means. And Wholesale down the street does have 1000 round cases or .223 right now

Lies! Just remember what they say about 858's and fat chicks: fun to ride, but you don't want your other black rifle friends to see you on one. ;)

Maybe they want to see a complete take-down/disassembly, some feedback on the trigger or accuracy...?

On this forum it means a poorly written opening post, with no basis of comparison. Insert random opinions and pictures of paper targets full of "flyers" and you're ready to rock.

Oh my. Too much lolling on this thread right now.

Rocket Surgery, I might just have to do that now. "Tavor is awesome battle rifle. Good for hunting, CQB, and precision @ 1600 yards"

Blaxsun, if I dress my 858 up in complete Israeli Fab-Defense kit does that at least make it the ugly cousin of the Tavor?

Only if it looks like this (anything has to be better than a 'ginger'). ;)
