Shooting Partners in Victoria, BC?

Looking for a shooting partner and mentors in Victoria, BC. Hoping to find some long range spots off of the beaten path to stretch my rifles legs. 250 at the VFGPA isn't cutting it.

Feel free to PM me. Not sure where else to post this.

Seems to be a pretty tight nit community around here, if there even is one. The guys that claim to know where spots are certainly are not talking about them.

Trying to get into long range shooting more seriously and possibly compete next year.
 
What's especially frustrating is that there's that unused 1000 yard range right in Saanich that I quess the military doesn't want civilians using.

As I seem to recall hearing it .. One of the chiefs on the civilian side of things had it out with one of the chiefs on the military side regarding public usage or policy and since it couldn't be talked out peacefully they (military) just pulled rank and shut it down to the public

Totally and completely false. The BCRA can indeed shoot on the Heals rifle range but the range has been re-templated as of 1996 down to 400m. Basically it is of no use to the organization, we use Nanaimo military range that is 600y instead. If more people were members of the BCRA we would actually have a more powerful voice to push to have Heals range re-templated back to 1000 with only 20 lanes open, or we could just ##### about it on the internet...........
 
It's actually a 1000 meter range. We never shoot anything past 200m though. And they only mow the grass as far back as 500m, so the rest is to overgrown to see anything from prone.

And it likes to flood out in the spring, so that only the berms are out of the water. One of the members here, worked there for a while. I'll bet he knows why its shut down to civilians.

Edit: I guess Mike knows. How would we go about getting it templated back to 1000m
 
See all those houses around there? They will scream bloody murder if it gets re-templated back to 1000, and the great unwashed public starts shooting there. And then the government will give in. And then the range will be shut down and turned into a nude vegan peace plantation. Mark my words.
 
The key to getting the DND to even look at it is military shooting teams. This can be accomplished by the westcoast military members forming a team or teams working together with the BCRA, it is actually fairly simple it just takes effort. Once you get to the point of having viable teams that can compete at NSCC and CFSAC you have a requirement for the range. Once that step is complete you then need a team that has unit support that wants to shoot the sniper comp segment of NSCC and CFSAC, now you have a requirement for a longer range.....

All of those houses have always been there forever but Heals has been there a long time, The BCRA has been shooting there since 1890. Bunch of granola munchin hippies can kiss my ass, if a military member or provincial rifle association member wants to become better at their craft then within reason that should obviously be the priority.
