RFB initial thoughts, Range report ***JANUARY 31st ammo test at bottom of OP***

Still love my RFB.. no regrets what so ever.

So what factory ammo works best in these guns.. in terms of accuracy.

I have been trying several types of ammo, but groups are still 4-5 inches at 100m
Is that just how this gun shoots? or is it me not doing my part properly... ?

Mine fairs ok with norico surplus. Dosent like anything soft point. Shoots really good with winchester suprem balistic silver tip(168gr.) Also heard great thing about federal match king( or one of there high end round) in 165gr with the little hollow tip.
 
So far 145 MFS seems to be the most accurate factory ammo. Stormtrooper posted his results on this thread with that ammo. Also it's cinder block destroying ability. Others on the Kel tec forum have also noted very good accuracy with the non brass stuff. We aren't sure why. That being said the shorter OAL that SBE found really worked would essentially do the same thing as the non brass casings.
 
I have gotten down to .75 moa group with federal gold match, and some other high end ammo. That being said I am not a big fan of the rifle, I picked up a Robison arm xcr-m and love it way more that the RFB. I am thinking of getting rid of ithe RFB all together. Fun to shoot but not what I am use to!

I haven't seen one in Canada shoot that ammo better than 2 moa. The ones I've shot don't seem to like Federal Gold at all. In the States maybe with a suppressor they seem to shoot well with that ammo but not here without. Are we talking 3 round groups? Because I've seen those but then it opens up big time.

Also The XCR-M and RFB. Same accuracy only the RFB is tiny compared to the XCR-M. My RFB is slightly smaller than my Tavor since there isn't a flash hider which is shorter than a M4 with the stock collapsed. That is a very neat trick in a semi auto 308. It makes my AR10 rifles look huge.

If you're shooting benched then yes you will prefer the XCR-M. If you're shooting offhand or hunting, the RFB is significantly better.

I'll revisit the XCR-M when we see 20" SS match barrels. Then I'll look into it. If it can even come close to my AR10 rifles for accuracy only in non restricted I'll give one a try. It's not there now that's for sure.
 
Humm, strange, my rfb can shoot 1moa with the federal gold 175gr. ( when on front rest and sand bag rear ) i only added a roedale brake to it.
Using remington core lokt 150gr or 180gr, the best was 2 - 3 moa, i even put it here for sale here on EE.... But now, will keep it for sure, just received a sightron III 1-7x24 and LOVE that glass. Just my own experience...
Now, will try it with superformance ammo as i whant to use it to hunt this fall.

I've only tried the 168 federal gold not the 175 in mine. It didn't like it at all. Mine doesn't have a brake or flash hider on it.

I will say that i do feel stupid giving you advice as i have read and appreciated very much alot of your post!

My rfb seems to be very accurate as show pictures i posted in other tread, and that on request i could post here. One of the critical things i noted with this rifle is that ot simply wont group at all with soft point bullet! Have you ever tryd walmarts winchester supreme balistic silver tip? I shot my best group( with a 3x sight) with those. Even can am norinco 7.62x51 were printing 1.5-2.5! And by no mean am i experience or a good shot.

I'm very happy with the MFS ammo - split a case with two other wonderful gunnutz last year and like everything about it with one exception...The red debris it leaves on the bolt after firing (think it's residue from whatever they seal the primer with). Also really like the 168 grain ballistic Silvertip - went to stock up a bit at LeBaron but they only had 150gr on the shelf...

My RFB is un-threaded as well, and originally I wanted to put a hider / brake on it, but I have grown accustomed to it the way it is. And as weird as this may sound, I quite like the little 5 round factory mags...with all you fellas buying polymer mags I'll have to keep my eyes open on the EE board and see if any of the tiny one's come up. ;-)

Hey no worries sharing info on the RFB is the whole point of this thread. The more people trying stuff out and reporting it the better for all of us. I have some reloads and 145 MFS ammo to try out.

I did by the way load up some 175 SMK with varget during the testing with fireball's RFB. It shot ok but not great. Here's the real irony though. I gave the last 5 to fireball at the end when he had his AR10 out. Here give this a try. First 3 were the same hole. 4th shot screwed the group to just under 1moa. 5th shot back in the previous group. The 4 rounds were about .25 centre to centre moa group. So I might have missed the reload for the RFB but ended up with a great AR10 reload. :D We have however had 1.5 moa with reloads. Results are on the first post in this thread.

If I could ask one favour. Could you try the same rounds with the brake off? I know supressors seem to positively help groups with the RFB according to the US sites. I'm wondering if the brake creates a bit of back pressure too? Any pics of the brake on the RFB? Also where did you get it? Yes Im wondering if it's contributing to the accuracy. I know the recoil reduction will help the shooter but having read about supressor back pressure improving RFB groups makes me wonder.....

I also like the RFB without the brake. I do however find with the Burris fullfield 2 that the eye relief is on the close side. Haven't been tagged yet but have come close. I also discovered I had the gas setting too high. So hopefully less will help out with this.

I bought 2 packs of that 145 MFS after seeing your post. Still need to get to the range though. This summer hasn't been good for shooting unfortunately.

You probably found your problem there, gas setting is known for messing up the accuracy and incresing recoil big time. Also you shurly know( please this is not ment offencive) if you find your eye relife to close to your face and makes you concern of getting hit then that alone can screw up your accuracy, but probably not that with you.

Also my last group was done with a flash hider if i have time this week end i will try with my muzzel brake.

the first batch of ammo i have tried, like i said, was remington green box 150 and 180 gr. i was so disapointed that i put it for sale here on EE... 2.5, 3in group as 100 yards told me 5 or 6in a 200 yards, it was worst then my old MINI-14 loll so the gun had to leave.
THEN i installed the brake WITHOUT TRIED IT AFTER, until i hit the range with my accurate .308 bolt, it's been built to shoot 175gr (or so) so i said, well, let's try this ammo in the RFB, after tuning the gas port for few round, i shoot 5 round group for accuracy and it was WOW, sure, it's not as good as my bolt gun BUT for a complete box, 4 group of 5 round, 2 group out of 4 stayed inside the 1"x1" square on the target, the 2 other group was VERY colse to stay all in the small 1"x1" box.
Since then, i decided to keep the gun, and, i installed a good glass on it...
will try superformance ammo this weekend to see, will get back to you !!

So the theme here is you have to try not 1 or 2 diffrent ammo. But keep at it until you find the right one cause the gun is accurate.

Btw, very nice brake! Probably the best option for the non treded rfb out there

Actually i treaded mine, if warranty fall for treading the barrel, i will buy a new one, nothing worst there... ( but i found stupid to void the complete warranty for something done on the barrel )

The 2 screw that you see are to index it properly
That brake is very effective, like i said, you can see the hole punching the target at 100y.

Only down side to this brake are for baystanders, man, it blast so much each side... but so effective... no free lunch !!!

I will take a picture tomorrow of my kel tec brake, its the same designe but 45$ :D

Yes and no. I was just wanting to throw some rounds down range with my RFB. Fireball's RFB was used for all the real testing. See first post on this thread. The gas was set up properly on his.

Scope bite has never been an issue for me. When benches the RFB with non adjusted gas and shorter eye relief scope can get close. All accuracy testing was done by fireball with his RFB which was set up right before extensive testing.
