Guess I don't have any pictures of the kill on my camera, but here's one of Rick standing beside a hind.

That's just the hind, not the hind quarter, and he is 6'-3" tall. Notice the sizable hole in the rib cage.

Will have to get pictures of the bull down from Rick.

The happy hunter and his wife. This is Rick's second moose, and the first she has been in on.

Look at the size of that moose head!

We put 520 pounds of meat, no bones, in the freezer, plus the heart, kidneys, etc. :D

He was an easy 1200 on the hoof.

Now take a look at how far away the lake is! :eek:

That's what I posted earlier, however he was just rolling fat and prime.

You are right about some really big bulls in the Yukon. My lovely wife is the one who shoots 60" plus moose more often than anyone I know. One of those huge bulls put more than 650 pounds in the freezer! :eek: Biggest I ever got was a bit over 64", but had a rather small frame. When I saw him I figured him to be close to 70, if not more.

Half way to the lake on the last trip out. That hind weighs close to 130 pounds!

You mentioned he was shooting a brand new XL7? I know you're a fan just like me, but is this a recent purchase, or just new to him?

You know I love my .243 XS7, and was gonna get one in .270 for the father in law, assuming they are still made like they used to be before the Remington takeover.

No caribou. It was just a three day hunt, and took a full day and a half to pack the moose out, so that pretty much ended the hunt.

Roger was quite serious, however we all would have helped you.....the first time. :) After that you're on your own if you whack one a mile from shore. Rick now knows why. :D

That moose is larded very nicely. I remember butchered black white faces on the farm that were not that larded. Will make great eating. Great post Ted.

He had two to three inches of lard all over his back and hips, Darryl. The kidneys had six to seven inches of suet around them. They were literally the size of basket balls.

He is some good eating indeed!

I know where you were hunting, just from the photos. Did you see the grizzly boar that's usually around this time of year?

There was lots of sign, Doug, and some concern about him while we were cutting up the moose. More so the second day while packing, as there had had been so much scent around for so long. Never did see him though.

The girls rode shotgun for us while we packed. Marg carried my 9.3X62 that you used on your moose a few years ago. That was quite comforting. :cool:
