PDW builds - Lets see them, and share results

Picture time again... This is my latest project (still missing a few parts for the upper).

Hera-Noveske-Knight-Socom, although we might as well just call it 'Franken PDW' - because with the exception of the upper and compensator from Hera, every other part is from a different manufacturer. The balance on this thing is near perfect, and the weight is just insane (should come in just over 5.5lbs with optic).

This thing is going to be an absolute riot to shoot! :ar15:

That looks awesome!!! What type of optic are you thinking for it?

Let us know how that works out. I am interested in how these things run without a buffer or with modified buffer. I've seen one with a 1/4 length buffer but I can't imagine how that will work.

Will do. I just ran a quick non-range check, and regardless of spring - a standard length AR buffer just isn't going to fly. PWS has an integrated dead buffer in their tubes (reduces recoil), and with the reduced length of the pistol tube you can't retract the BCG far enough to lock the bolt back (should load and fire fine, though). I'm not entirely sure how it would run without a buffer, to be honest - and it did raise the question of what PWS ships for a spring and buffer with their Mk107 pistols...

I'm running an Enidine AR-308 collapsible buffer in my 6.8SPC build (5/8" shorter than a standard AR buffer), and when I swapped that over it worked perfectly with the PWS pistol tube on a standard or modified spring. Between the inherent recoil reduction with the PWS tube and the Enidine buffer, felt recoil should be negligible.

I thought I'd also mention that the standard Enidine hydraulic carbine buffers exhibit the same 'bolt-not-locking-back' issue on any standard mil-spec or commercial extension tubes without substantial spring modification (probably in the neighbourhood of between 8-10 coils).

Colt SCW.

Ah. The "HK416 killer"... I wasn't able to find any details about the stock, but it's probably similar to what HK has done with a modified BCG/spring. From this one comment it looks like they still have a few teething issues to work out... ;)

Have they fixed the SCW stock? It dumps the magazine when in the folded and not retracted position with the slightest bump to the stock on the left, as when the shooter transitions to a handgun. The big hinge button hits the ambidextrous magazine release on the left side.

Here's an updated build of my LWRC. I would say it's near-final, but who are we kidding?! This is me we're talking about...! ;) I stripped the DBAL and Surefire and substituted a Viridian C5L combo instead. Net savings was over a pound (!), so the weight is now down to a streamlined 7lbs 6oz!!

The savings should allow me to run an EOTech G33 magnifier down the road without really adding much weight (+11oz, so 8lbs 1oz). I included a top-down picture of my rail setup, because I've actually customized the rail covers for comfortable easy-to-find grip for my left hand (you can see the slots I've left open on the right hand side for my fingers). I've alternated LaRue index clips with different lengths of the low-profile Ergo ladder rail panels.

It still got it's ass handed to it by HK416 line, 416 is still king.....
