Hello,

I have a brno 602 in 375HH and am looking for a high grade cz550 in the same.
I have been through the cz site and still have a couple of questions.
Is the capacity the same or does the 602 hold one more round?
Are the high grades in 375hh all 20" barrels?
Is the glass bedding standard or an option?

I don't see any in stock at any sponsor web sites although I know epps used to carry them.

If anyone has a lead on one in new condition I'd appreciate it.

I believe that Prophet River handles high end CZ rifles. Give Clay a call.

My question is (and "because" could be a suitable answer) why would you double up on the 375 H&H? The 602 is the granddaddy of the 550 and often regarded as superior. I could understand picking up a 550 if you wanted one of the oddball big bores (505 Gibbs, 404 Jeffery etc) in a factory offering, but to duplicate what you already have in an inferior rifle. Kinda like buying a 458 Win in a Post-64 Model 70 when you have a Pre-64 458 Win in the safe already. Just curious, that's all.

the 602 is awesome, I am going to keep it for a back up/ foul weather rifle. Either that or it needs the barrel exterior refinished.

What in specific is worse on the 550? I thought they were the same, other than safety and trigger...

When your are talking to Clay check out the Coopers, they are now available in 375 H&H, with an endless combination of add on's, you can build what ever you can afford. I have what I believe is the first Cooper M56 Classic 375 H&H that Clay brought in, has a 25" barrel and no sights, just what I wanted, shoots as well as any other Cooper I have. It will be my "reach out and touch something big" at a distance rifle, no need for open sights. It is wearing a Zeiss 3.5-10x44 with a 4A reticle in Talley rings, weighs exactly 9.5 pounds and balances very well.

From what I'v eheard it's the fit and finish on the 550 that can be inferior to the 602, and there are mixed reports about the trigger. Lots of guys seem to not like them and swap them out. All in all they're not bad rifles, just not as good as the 602.

I must hand it to CZ though...they are the only guys offering factory rifles in African calibers. 505 Gibbs, 404 Jeffery, 425 Westley Richards...not reamers that you find in everyone's shop, for sure.

ok,

good points re. the 550,

I think the high grade 550's are made in the custom shop so the fit and finish and triggers should be very good. I have not handled one in person though so it would be nice to talk to someone who has.

The only high grade cz I've handled didn't have a straight thru the wrist area which turned me off. Beautiful wood though. Bout twice the price of a new standard cz 550 as well. The fit and finish was real nice

can you elaborate a bit more on that? Are you referring to the stock shape or the wood grain?

I'm sure it was just that rifle. I firmly believe that any wood stocked rifle should have a straight grain thru the wrist which adds to its strength. The problem with fancy wood is sometimes it is weaker as the grain of the wood is not straight. On a heavy recoiling gun the wrist is subject to a great deal of stress. I love exhibition/fancy wood on a gun but for a serious hunting gun I'd take a plain straight grain for its strength and durability. Of all the 550s I've shot I do like them and will eventually buy one in either 375hh or 9.3x62

ok, thats what I thought you meant. I would agree with that as well. Ideally they should have a nice figure in the rear stock and straight grain through the wrist.
