Hello,

Just wondering, can CZ SP01 Shadow be used for IDPA events in SSP class ?
Reason of my question is 39 oz limitation.

Thanks !

I'd wait a few more weeks before going down this road. A new IDPA rule book is on the way and though it is unlikely that the equipment rules will change a lot, anything is possible.

But should beginner be in SSP or ESP ? Or another option: doesn't really matter, just have fun and shoot ?
What do you think ?

Just have fun and shoot. Note that the Shadow isn't legal for any division unless it makes weight for SSP.

Depending on your club they may or may not enforce the equipment rules, I would check out a local match and see what they say.

Every day something new, thanks !

You can follow how to get your Shadow to make wait via the IDPA Canada website. In order to get it to make weight you must change the grips to Dennis Marshal grips that weigh in at .4oz.

RAKS makes a good point to wait until the new rule book comes out sometime in December. The dustcover restriction &/or weight restrictions may change.

Another option is to buy the 75 Shadow. I comes without the FLDC. I've shot the gun and it is sweet!

Just shoot and have fun.

With IDPA if you stick with the fun and get to where you shoot a qualifier you'll simply be put into the category band that you scored. From that point on you'll be shooting against others in ESP that are within your category. So the equipment is not the same game setter that it is in IPSC. In IPSC the "standard" class, which is sort of comparable to ESP, still allows a heap of equipment upgrades which are strictly prohibited in IDPA. So it's simply not the same boat at all.

So buy the Shadow if that's what you want. Use it in IPSC Production and don't do a thing to it and use it in ESP in IDPA.

I'm not sure that CRAFM has non-SP01 version. They deal with CZ Europe, but CZ 75 Shadow is distributed by CZ-USA.

Anyway, thanks everyone for good advices and time !

BTW, I looked yesterday into the IDPA Rulebook, and on p.22 it says:

EXCLUDED Modifications (NON-Inclusive list):
1. Full length dust covers of carbon or stainless steel.
2. Oversize diameter magazine release buttons.
3. Trigger shoes.
4. Slide lightening (see “slide, lightening” in glossary for
further information).
5. Refer to Appendix ONE-A. Firearms-Non-IDPA-Legal
Modifications.

But my question is why dust cover is not allowed on SP01 Shadow ? It's not a modification by user, gun comes with it out factory.
Where am I wrong ?

Trying to read the IDPA rule book with a dictionary in hand will only get you into trouble. This topic has been done over and over again, the SP01 Shadow is not legal unless it makes weight for SSP. If you don't believe us, please refer to the official IDPA rules forum, and please do some searching before rehashing old questions:

Hopefully the new rule book will be clearer. If you have a problem with this, you may need to find another sport.

Just shoot and have fun.

So buy the Shadow if that's what you want. Use it in IPSC Production and don't do a thing to it and use it in ESP in IDPA.

Nope read what RAKS said. The SP-01 Shadow is to heavy in stock form and is not eligible to shoot ESP Division in IDPA as it comes from the factory.
