Gun Auctions? Manitoba in particular?

Was just wondering how many of you have been to gun auctions. I see there is one coming up in Stonewall MB in a month and am wanting to go for a drive and check it out. I see there are a few Model 94s there and if the price is right, I may bring one home with me. Maybe a shotgun too.

Basically, I am curious what your experiences are at gun auctions. Do prices generally stay fair? Or is it full of slobbering gun junkies bidding up the prices to insane heights?

(apologies to my fellow slobbering gun junkies, I mean no offense by that. Ha!)

I guess it isn't gun junkies though. Only old dudes and younger guys who don't have the internet to tell them that $300 for any Cooey .22 is too much.
 
Yup. The Stonewall auction is good if you are looking for something particular that may be hard to find, but you must be willing to pay through the nose to get it.

I've been several times. If you are just looking for an average gun, that is not the place to be. As Stuckon308 said, it is not uncommon to see a 64b in "fair" shape go for upwards of $250, or a Winchester 1200 go for $5-600.
 
Wow, I've only been to one gun auction. It was at a small gun club in Ontario. Must have been a strange crowd present because almost everything went REALLY cheap. A lot of the stuff was brand new and it sold for 50%-60% of sticker prices. 22's sold for $80-$120. Lefty guns were especially low because there was no lefties. A brand new LH remington 1100 sporting 12g sold for $600. I bought a brand new savage LH 110 30-06 for $275.

Answer to Question 1: NO

Answer to Question 2: YES

When they first started those auctions, I never missed one! Then I started loosing interest fast, when I reliezed that you could not buy a gun for a reasonable price very often, if ever. So, I then looked at the lists and only went if there was something real interesting to me. Yes, I too am guilty of over paying, I have to addmit! But I wanted her real bad and so did somebody else! Now I only go if there is something extremely interesting to me. Take the drive, go see for yourself, but take a real thick wallet with you! :p
 
Twenty years ago, the govt would auction off the guns seized by Manitoba Conservation. That fall they had these auctions about every two weeks or so, and there were hundreds of guns in each one. THOSE went for cheap, like I mean Winnipeg cheap. $10 for a Lee Enfield by the end of the auction, they almost couldn't give them away.

But the Stonewall auction? By all means go check it out, just be prepared to spend 8 hours in an uncomfortable metal chair wedged between two fat guys who reek of stale cigarettes, and watch as many bids go ridiculous. Remember, it's a room full of male gun nuts with cash in their pocket who DESPERATELY want to buy something after driving all the way out to Stonewall, during hunting season. Pray that the gun you want is either in the first five or the last five.

perfectly described! :p but I don't know about the last 5 though, most of those reeker's and reaper's are there right to the bitter end! yeah, bring a seat cushion for sure!

You won't find a more accurate description anywhere! However that doesn't stop me from taking them in when I can. It's still lots of fun to watch the auction proceedings and shake you're head in wonderment.

yep, was there at the second last one, I couldn't buy a gun for no money, so I bought a real nice meat band saw for a decent price! It cuts the venison butchering time right down! :p

Oh kinda forgot about Arden's Gun Auction. It's only 5 or 10 mins away from me, it seems I always get caught up doing something else when it's on.

my cal shows Oct 20th, take #7 hwy to the Stonewall cornor (#67) at the lights, go west to the town outskirts, turn right on the street where the auction is, signs will be posted and there will be one million vehicles all over the area.

Saturday Oct. 20. Website says it starts at 9:30 am. Location: #12 Patterson Drive. If you look up the McSherry Auction website, and scroll thru the upcoming autcions, you will find the gun auction and you can see what's gonna be up for grabs.

I see there is one coming up in Arden MB as well on Oct 14 thru Meyers Auctions.
