buck shot and turkey choke?

Anyone tried this?
How was the pattern?
Any ill effects to gun or choke.

I fired a few 00 buck rounds through a REM CHOKE HD super full predator/turkey choke. Pattern was awful. Seemed like too much constriction for the big pellets. #4 buck patterned very well with the same choke.

From what I understand the problem is the pellets deform going through the choke and results in a terrible pattern.

If it sounds like a dumb idea it usually is.....

??? Not sure what you mean any harder than lead would probally split the barrel or choke tube??

You are getting foolish in your old age Like you I can get by with 4 buck no problem with a tight full but not 00

Wouldn't you rather have your first, best shot with the slug, then follow up with the buck if you (gods forbit) have to shoot a running, badly hit animal?

I would get rid of the buckshot altogether unless you are shooting in the thick stuff at close range, too many wounded animals with buckshot imo.

The general rue of thumb was larger buck shot more open choke.
Tighter patterns achieved usually with a mod or imp. Cyl rather than a full or tighter. As mentioned before pellet deformation was the cause.
I wouLd also worry about the choke tube threads getting pushed out into the barrel threads and jamming together. I've seen that.
The odd gun will shoot a decent pattern with a "full" but when I was patterning buck shot "modified " or "imp. cyl" shot better.

Have shot several deer with buckshot out of a mod. choke and they either dropped on the spot or went less than 40 yds.

Where I will be hunting I have never shot a deer father than 40 yds mainly due to bush conditions

Will shoot it this week to determine slug pattern if it is decent will consider slugs only

Another possiblity is rifled choke tube due they help a standard rifled slug or do they work better with sabot slugs

Well I finally tried it with a Carlsons .644 and it was awesome at 25 yds 10" pattern this will be my set up for Deer and Coyote

If you use a tight choke for a tight pattern why not use a slug instead of buckshot?
My grouping for slugs has never been larger than any buckshot pattern I have seen, always figured buckshot was for times when over penetration was an issue.

That will be very effective buckshot pattern on game. I would like to see how it holds together at 35 to 40 yards.
