Finally found some 160 grain 6.5mm bullets

Glad you found what you have been searching for.

Myself, I have about as much interest in a 160 grain 6.5mm bullet as I have in a 140 grain 6mm bullet, lol.

If I can't get it done with a well-constructed 139/140 grain bullet, I will move up in diameter.

But to each their own. That is what makes things interesting.
One thing is certain...penetration should be stellar!

Regards, Eagleye.

Agreed in all respects. The 140 gr is just about perfect for me in the 6.5x55.

Yep...got out of the 160's

If i buy heavy now Ill buy Norma or Lapua 155 ish. Got some loaded for Moose opener and also have a good supply of 140gr. Partitions...kind of mulling over what I will bring.

The main reason I bought them to try is just load development, I picked up some 156 gr norma oryx thats waiting to be tried as well. As of now I have 95 grain, 129 grain, 140 grain, and now the 160 grain all to see what the BRNO likes best. 3 of each load with a 5 grain span by the .5 denomination (ie. 39.5, 40, 40.5 etc). I might do a whole report with chronied speeds and all and target pictures after all is said and done.

Would be interested in seeing it. I found it interesting that my 85gr. and 140gr. loads were about the same POI at 100 yards. One of my favorite chamberings for sure.

By the way, my loading books load down the 6.5x55 for old mauser standards. If I have a stronger BRNO 600 Deluxe how much more do you think I could load it up? I understand to watch the primers flattening out and bolt stiffness after but has anyone actually got a load made for commercial 6.5 actions?

My 6.5x55 is on a Remington 700 action [700 "Classic"]
48 grains of Reloder 22 behind the 140 Partition for about 2830
49 grains of Norma MRP for just a bit faster.
No idea about the 160's though.

Now some 160gr match bullets would be very interesting

Chinchauga Bullets has a ULD 160gr match bullet, but I have no experience with it. Considering how long the VLD 140's are, it must look like a Stinger missle. :D

I am running the same load under a 140gr SST for deer in my BSA CF-2. Haven't chronied it to see how it compares to yours, though.

I have seen this bullet of Dale's. It is indeed as long as a pencil, lol.
I believe a 1-7" twist is best for it.

Mark, let us know how it compares...I'm curious. How long is the barrel on that CF-2?

I also run that same partition load in my Tikka...don't think I get 2800 out of mine...would have to re-chrony..its been a while.

Interesting, that is my preferred load as well. With a 140 Amax in a M96 Swede.
The typical military Swede bore slugs .265-.266", enough oversize to drop the velocity(and pressure) to 2675FPS, with the same powder charge.

What about 168gr? Alberta Wildcat 168gr VLD

What kind of brass are you running ? I was shooting that load with winchester but I havesome Norma and Lapua available now...looking into making the switch...I dont' think the volume difference will be enought that I have to load down since 48.5 did produce any visual pressure indicators.
