Whats the quality jump from $500 to $1000?

Looking for a scope for a new hunting rig. This is my first scoped centerfire so Im not gonna be reaching out.

Hunting at 100-300 yards.

Do I go full on and get a zeiss conquest 3-9x40? Or just stick with the leupold vx3 or something in that price range

Also- I am a Scopenewb but do plan on learning how to shoot, is it worthwhile to get some sort of graduated reticle like a mildot?
 
Well i did have the VX3 on my hunting rifle ..when the Zeiss came on sale a few years back i got 2 of them for $400.each .......edge to edge clear glass, and way more light gathering at the end of day on the Zeiss ..... and if you look around you can find them for just over $500 range new ........ and well worth the money spent figuring the VX3 is in the $600+ range....just my 2 cents
.... but if you want a real nice just like newVX3 i have one on the EE


just looked ...wssports has the zeiss 3x9-40 on for 399$ again ...thats what i paid for them
 
A Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 will run you $600, check with Prophet River or Plainsight Solutions. My point being that you're not "going all the way" you still have four bills to play with. And yes a Conquest 3-9x40 will do you just fine.
 
Out to 300 yds-9x is plenty. But, you may wish to hunt or shoot to 500 yds one day. If that's the case, consider upsizing in the maginfication department. I have a VX3L in 3.5x10x50mm-great scope and great reticle (Boone & Crocket). I have no issue reaching out to 500 yds with this scope on my .270.

I have a Zeiss rangefinder, so know of their quality...based on pricepoint, I would go with the least expensive. Methinks the VX3 "L" series has been discontinued, so you might find a deal.

A Zeiss up to 300 metres is as clear as a Leopold and that is especially true early in the morning and late in the day, i could be wrong but this is what i did find out owning both scopes... JP.
 
4Scopes has a 3x9x40 for just under four brown ones.
Then they are offering an orange one discount.
Not sure if this before or after the sale price.
Non comprendre c'est lingo.....

Depends which one. The VX6 is much nicer than the Conquest. My friend was over the other evening and we both agree that the VX-6 is nicer than the Swarovski Z3 4-12x50. But that is what everyone who has both says.

Caramel, you seem to have a fair number of firearms and scopes. You should take a look at the VX6. It is a completely different animal than the VX-3.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I never did look tru a VX-6, but when i go to Le Baron i will ask to look tru one ... Cheers. JP.
