jungle carbine tap and drill?

I have a S&K mount with a cheap set of rings I will sell you cheap. Then you don't have to drill holes in this thing.

Another thing to consider, if you are hunting really tight woods the aperture sight on that JC is about 10x better than a scope for one, #2, a JC isn't that accurate at ranges where you should really use a scope to give clean humane kills. You'd want something else for that, I have 6 Lee-Enfields including a Parker-Hale sporter and I still went out and bought a Rem 742 in .280 for longer distance shots. If you are just shooting at a range or at targets the S&K mount will do. You can move it between any No4 or 5 rifle you may have n your collection as well and that's pretty handy for load development etc.

Only way I'd hunt with a JC is in brutal tight woods where you might actually trip over your animal and not know it was there. If you are expecting great accuracy out of that stubby light little unit its probably not going to happen. I'd buy a S&K and try it, if you agree with our points after trying it at least you can go back and you haven't lost at least $300 in the process and ruined an increasingly rare piece of history.

Also could you post pics of the rifle you are thinking of doing this to?

Unless it is. You get "outliers" sometimes, one that just happens to be much better or much worse than the specificatons say it ought to be. Test it thoroughly on the range just in case you have a lucky one. But statistically, flyingpig is right.

It could be, but what is his intended use? He never really said. I just can't picture a situation where this would be of great enough benefit to drill holes in a nice as issued No5, if that is what he has. If bubba has ruined it then by all means go ahead, its a total loss as is, and if this makes it useful for you without hurting value then have at er. Just for that kind of money loss you could watch the EE for a while and add another nice original Lee-Enfield to your collection, eg. I only paid $350 for my Longbranch from P&S, and $425 for my 742 .280 which is the best choice for an all around rifle for hunting in the situations I hunt in.

Just my .02

After reading all the posts, I don't think anybody suggested that you not drill & tap, and you could put an S&K mount on......:D

You can get a sportered #4 mk 1 for 150 or less. If you simply have to have the short barrel of a JC then have someone competant bob the barrel and stick a repro JC flash hider on it. The JC is only going to gain value over time, unless you drill holes in it.
