Hello All,

I hope everyone is doing very well this Saturday morning. I just relocated from Ontario to Edmonton, Sherwood Park to start a new position. I am looking for a good shooting range indoors or outdoors (but prefer indoors for cold season). I shoot mainly handguns, restricted rifles, and sometimes my shotgun (it is the security type). Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Ironsight :)

Well there's Sherwood Park Fish and Game ...its an outdoor range, membership is 100 bucks for the year and can be purchased at P-D Enterprises in Edmonton (but I heard the all full up for members this year...) There's the Spruce Grove Gun Club in Spruce Grove...just west of the city. $130 for the year its outdoor but the have a range hut for winter use...don't think its heated though. You have to go to the website and print off the application and send it in. There's Phoenix Range which is indoors its on the east side of Edmonton, west of Sherwood Park. $22.00 for a day pass, new membership for the year is $475 renewals are $375, and if your military or police its $325 to join up for the year. Hope this helps

Phoenix if you cant handle the fact youll be shooting around alot of noobs since they remt out gun to people without rpals. I just finished a shooting session there with the beretta

There's also the Canadian Historical Arms Society range down south at Genesse as well. $100 membership I do believe, and you get Tuesday night free at Phoenix. Or maybe it was Thursday. That might be a good choice as you're technically getting access to two ranges for $100 plus one of them is indoor and heated.

I go to Pheonix and my biggest problem with the place is that some the RO's are younger people on a huge power trip and tend to treat you like crap at times. I have been literally yelled at a few times for something that I was not doing wrong.

I like the range and most of the staff is really cool but there are a few that I have noticed treat everyone like they were dummies.

I'm dealing with the same issue actually. I'm going to hang my hat just north of Calgary....potentually Crossfield, and I'm looking for a good rifle/pistol range. I'm actually also looking for a range that I can shoot at more that just paper targets......steel is just fun :)

And they have shotgun shells on their vest all the time....for some reason.

I stopped in at Phoenix once, just to look around. Didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling. Watched someone in the range(through the glass), and he had two range officers breathing down his neck. Didn't look like my idea of a fun outing.

80% of the people that go to Phoenix don't have a PAL. They require the RO "breathing down their neck" by law. Only time I've seen two is if one RO is training. Usually they are pretty knowledgeable and most the RO's I've had before i got my PAL helped me a lot with my skills. If you have your PAL they pretty much leave you alone other than they wander by every once in a while. I've only seen an RO question someone was when he was rapid firing his pistol. Asked to see his target and was satisfied he wasn't a newbie and moved on.

While Phoenix does get a bad rap for some of the RO's, the bad ones don't last long.

Most of the long term employees there are great guys and really help out regulars and noobs.

I go to Phoenix all the time and don't have a problem with any RO. I do have my restricted and bring my own ammo. They just leave me alone. I have tried some of their rentals, left alone with those as well. I think as long as you're obeying the rules you will have no problems.
