Maverick 88 is a great inexpensive shotgun, I had one for awhile, used it as my truck gun. It ate everything and never had an issue. Bought it at wholesale sports, right around $220 with 18.5" barrel and both full stock and pistol grip. Buy with confidence:shotgun:

If you want an all around Maverick, save up an extra $70 or so and get the combo with the long barrel and the 18.5" barrel. Then you can hunt, shoot trap etc and still have a short barrel in about 20 seconds.

I bought the gun at a local gun show only mod was the ATI top folder stock I bought from cabelas. Grit blasted the stock and krylon'd it. Got the sling from a company out of the states

Don't buy the Maverick. I have had two come to me to be looked at for the same issue: binding.

These guns are basicly Mossberg 500's, however, they only have ONE guide rod on the pump. Because of this after a while the pump starts to bind on the mag tube, espeshally if you shoot left handed.

Buy The mossberg 535 ATS. It's not that much more in price but it's a way better shotgun with WAY more features.

You have been warned.

the earlier ones have one guide rod, now they have two.

The new maverick 88s are dual bar.the older are single bar.not sure when the changeover dates were.THe newer ones are fully compatible with most 500/590 parts, except mag extensions , trigger groups, and safety. The mag tubes themselves interchange too.

I would go WholeSale Sports online. I know people ##### about them but I find them no worse than Cabelas, (online). Also I think it is $279 @ WSS and you should watch out at Cabelas for a "Handling" charge. I bought a Lee Load All II @ Cabelas.ca because it was $10 cheaper than WSS only to get dinged with a $10 handling fee. Next time, I'll pay more attention.

One thing I should have mentioned is that new Mav 88s have the pump handle stuck onto the action slide assembly while the Mossberg pump handles can be removed more easily. You can buy a new action slide assembly and fit whatever Mossberg forend you want on it, or just leave it as is.

I should have mentioned that Maverick does make a "Persuader" style 88, for About $229, but WSS does not have them in stock and can not guarantee that price when they get new stock. They have me on an email list for when they get stock.

Make sure you pull down the option from 6 shot to 8 shot. Also you will not be able to use standard Mossberg 500 or Maverick 88 barrels with this model due to the longer length and the way the barrel attaches to the magazine tube.

I think the rule of dumb when buying online from cabela's and WSS is ask if something is in stock before you placed your order.
Do not believe an item is in stock just because the website says so, always email and ask first.
