Canadian tire selling Mosin 91/30 for $114.00

Welcome to the Mosin Club. Details on the secret handshake will soon be forthcoming.

Getting a nice pre-war '38 for that price is an extremely good deal! ! ! ! ! Even if it is an Izhevsk model vs the Tula so prized by Mosin snobs.... :D

The big deal is to really do a good job of cleaning out the chamber. There's lots of info on methods for this.

I'd avoid the abrasive paste versions for chamber smoothening for now in favour of simply doing a good job with a hand drill and bore brushes that fit each part of the chamber along with some good solvent. There's time for the more aggresive smoothening up options later on.

If it's like most of ours you'll find that the front sight pin is a little short so the rifle shoots high by about 6 inches at 100 yards. Again there's heaps of options for "fixing" this. One of which is to always shoot with the bayonet in place.... sort of gives a whole new meaning to "Coupe de Grace" for hunting Bambis.... :D

There is also heaps of information out there on improving the trigger pull and just about any other topic.

I had a 1939 Tula in may hand at the time too but didnt know the difference I bought first and researched later.

I was gonna buy the Tula too, but when I turned it over it had a fresh gouge in the stock where it maybe was damaged when taken from the crate. It wasnt all that bad but I picked this one instead and beside this one had the neat little hammer and sickle on it which says Soviet to me.

Blista77 is right thats where they are.

They had seven as of yesterday morning I was told. But sale is over and price is back to $160 as far as I know, The 3 I looked at where all in as good of condition as this one.

I would call ahead before making a long trip.

Also they had what was supposed to be a sniper but I dont know it it was a real sniper or just one replica built to sell but it was nice and they wanted $619  I like $114 better and I should have bought 2 the more I think about it. LOL

They also have a SVT 40 for around 300 I think  cant remember exact price. and have a couple vz58 in .223 but they are way high like 800 something :ar15:

the sniper they have is the WW2 ones that the dealers have and Svt-40 are $299 :)

Does anybody know whether any Canadian Tires in the Ottawa area may be selling Mosin Nagants? That would be a treat for the Ottawa-folk.

It's certainly time that CT got back to selling bangsticks like many of us remember. :)

Does anyone know if th elancaster store carries firearms
or any in quebec

I sent their customer service an email a few days ago asking which stores will be carrying surplus in Ontario... and what the policy was [whether it was up to the individual store manager or not] I got an automated reply back yesterday saying they were looking into it.

I suppose it's feasible that if they come from a CT distribution center that we may be able to order them online or over the phone.... ? maybe...

ARE YOU KIDDING! ? ! ? ! ?

It likely took him HOURS of Photoshop time to get just the right look to the transparent tape and the paper fibers so nicley randomized..... :D

Of those two ammo choices I think I'd go with the Sellier&Bellot. I'm not a big fan of MFS despite the price. But of the two go for the one which uses brass casings and boxer primers so you can save the brass and reload them later on.

Because reloading for rifle rounds is THE way to go. It produces ammo that is as good or better than factory and it does so for half or less the cost. And you can do it for a modest start up cost and using equipment that easily stows away in a small storage tub when not in use even if you live in an apartment the size of two closets.

yea! buy the S&B & if you don't want the brass, give it to me!! ;)

I shoot the 203 gr out of my svt-40 and mosin on a fairly regular basis. Great rounds, though I did have to modify the feed ramp on my svt as it had a burr which kept catching the soft lead and hanging up the round. Lots of killing power in shorter distances, never tried one past 200m though.

If you find the bolt REALLY bad, you can take some fine emery cloth and polish the surfaces of the receiver and bolt body that engage, it really helps with smoothing out the action. Unless of course you're one of those 'purists' that can't bear doing any mod, no matter how small, on a surplus firearm :D

All kinds of improvements/tricks to get the MN to operate more smoothly, search the web, especially a site called Smith Sights, he's got a whole section on mosin improvement.

Enjoy the rifle!

203gr seems a bit heavy to be firing out of an SVT-40 to me. I prefer to use light ball (147gr) ammo through my rifle. Less wear and tear on that action. Out of a mosin, though, I would not be concerned.

i emailed ct and requested a list of ct that sell firearms and ammo in quebec and ontario

I got a response back today:

Dear Mr. Kimball,

Thank you for contacting our office with your inquiry.

All of our Canadian Tire Hunting Pro Shops that sell firearms have access to surplus firearms. In regards to the specific ones mentioned, Soviet SVT – 40 and Mosin Nagants, a few stores ordered the Soviet SVT – 40’s but they did not receive any orders for the Mosin Nagants. Unfortunately in the Durham region we do not have any Canadian Tire Hunting Pro Shop's selling firearms. Your closest options would be Cobourg, Barrie and Lindsay. Barrie (320 Bayfield Street), was one store that had ordered some of the Soviet’s.

For other Southern Ontario locations you are able to view a full listing of our Canadian Tire Pro Shops at: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/Rese...ports+&+Rec:Fishing_tsl_HuntingFishingShop_en

It will indicate here which stores are selling firearms and all of them that are would have the ability to order the Soviet SVT – 40.
