Elk hunting setup?

Wow ---- after reading this I realize I am undergunned --- Last elk I got was with a 30-30 and the ones before that were with 308 and 303.

Note to myself <---- must go out and buy newest biggest magnum

Yeah my comment was more for the VX III line and under. Never looked through a VX 6. Does it have constant eye relief or does it change? I never have liked that about Leupold and don't know why they don't do something about it.

Yes, it has constant eye relief. I posted this elsewhere, but I had a much larger budget put aside for a scope. I am happy I looked through the VX6 (after reading all the positive reviews on 24hr Campfire).

I urge you to look through one if you are considering a scope in that price range or a bit higher. Everyone's eyes are different, but I am confident that you will be impressed.

The only thing I am not 100% keen on is that the turret caps won't fit with custom CDS turret installed. But I have not ordered them yet as I am happy with the basic system as is.

Naturally I can't speak to longevity and those types of questions.

I wanna go elk hunting and I can't make up my mind what to get ,I want to stay with common rounds. So no wildcat stuff as I'm on $1500-$2000 budget. Let me know what you think
300 WSM TIKKA T3 Hunter with a 4.5x14x50mm conquest. That was my budget and that's what I came home with after quality rings and a sling and new case put me little over 2000.00.

Ya took lots of elk moose with my .270 win but just wanted some more recoil in my life while I'm still young;) That's why I picked the 300wsm wanted something different, with some punch.

Never hunted elk but hoping for the chance to try this year. Given that chance, I'll be packing my Model 7KS in 350RM. I've worked up 225 partitions at just a tad over 2700 using Re15. I joy to pack at ~6.5 lbs all up with a leupold vxII 2-7 ;)

Not this exact bow, but similar. You get the point.

I've only been elk hunting a couple of times while I lived in Alberta.

I used a 338 WM with a 1.5-5 scope.

I'm actually quite surprised at the mention of higher powered scopes in this thread.
