Has anyone given a Rossi levergun in 44 mag a good work out. I'm looking for a fun plinker to blast melons with:)

Are they a good solid dependable gun with a reasonably smooth action and minute of pumpkin accuracy ?

I can't speak for the reliability yet, as I've only put ~75rds thru my .44mag Ranch Hand. Feels pretty solid though.

But definately "minute of pumkin" accurate, and the action isn't the smoothest but mines still new...

:)

I've ran about 500 rounds through my rossi 44 mag and have not had any trouble at all. it is one of the nicest lever guns i have. I use only cast bullets and it will 2-3" inches at 100 yards. Wood to metal fit is excellent.

I have one in 45 Colt and it so far is very reliable. Handles anything I put in it, can't go wrong for the price.

A new Winchester would be a lot nice rifle but also twice the price.

I fondled one a couple in the stores and a friend let me shoot his 30/30 (I know, not a 44 mag). One observation I had was that the barrel seemed thinner than the Henry or the Marlins. The action also appeared to be a little lighter as well and they were "wiggly" like a worn Winny.

At the range, the 30/30 was average and functioned flawlessly, mind you, it was 20 rounds I shot through it.

Those are my observations for what it is worth.

I've got one but in .454 Casull. Nice, light, good blueing, cycles well. Fires 45 lc and .454 without a hitch. I'd get another rossi in 45-70 if i had the money right now...

I have one I bought new in .357. I ordered the spring kit and a buddy watched the video and installed the kit, then tuned the action. Slick as can be. Haven't "range tested" it, but did kill a couple of rocks. Looks good in with my 1910 Saddle Ring, and my Belgian Congo 94, which is also a Saddle Ring!

Actually, a 30-30, handloaded cartridges with various weights of cast bullets and light to heavier charges of powder is fun too! I've fired hundreds of 93gr cast bullets ahead of 5 or 6 gr. of 700X in my 30-30's. Not recommending this charge by any stretch of the imagination.

Does Rossi make a lever in 30-30??

I had a Rossi 16 " in 44 mag I found the steel butt plate a little uncomfortable but it was a lot of fun to shoot, I now have a Ruger 77 /44 and I prefer it.

They are a Winchester 94 clone so that is about what you can expect. They aren't as smooth as a more expensive gun out of the box but if you pull it apart and polish the action/trigger they are about the smoothest lever gun you'll ever shoot.

Have one in a 44 mag trapper and have never had a problem with it - have not done any tuning as I found it was smooth from new - put a new rear sight on it from Steve's ?? down there in Texas and helped with POI as it tended to shoot high with the factory full buck horn sight (which is ugly as hell) - hope to shoot a dear with it this year - is my go to gun when walking around the deer property in the spring or summer.
