In CQB it would be nice to be able to double tap sometimes so as to have more time for the pistol part of the relay. For this reason i want to reduce muzzle jump.

I have some variables to work with - hot vs mild ammo and four different style of muzzle brakes in M4 and on CZ58. CZ is in both 223 and 7.62

I am trying to plan how to make a test with results I can measure on paper vs subjective results.

The range I plan on using has a 25 yard firing point. I plan on putting out a large sheet of paper with an aiming mark on it and firing a number of double taps from the standing position. The first shots will group on the aiming mark. The second shots will form a group (a big group) somewhere else. I assume the distance from the first group to the second group is a measure of the effectiveness of muzzle device.

Any suggestions before I try this?

IMO, it's pretty hard to get any reliable data with just two rounds. Muzzle climb tends to be cumulative with each successive round. You should use more rounds to get a true representation of how the device eliminates muzzle rise. Also, you have to try very hard to use the same shooting stance grip, etc for the test to be relatively meaningful.

One of the standard tests I do is fire at an 8 inch pie plate at 15 yards as fast as I can pull the trigger. So far only one muzzle device I've tried has put all rounds on the plate. Of course this test really only measures the users ability to get rounds on the plate coupled with the advantages offered by the muzzle device.

Good luck! I look forward to your test.

Consider how much crap it kicks up in the modified prone position. Mine works wonderful as a compensator, but I dig a fox hole every time I do modified prone and rifle and I look like we've been through a war zone afterwards...

if you go to youtube look for 21st century gunfighter they have a 4 part test of a very wide range of brakes and flash hiders
