I am trying to track down a source for a replacement light contour barrels for the xcr-l in .223. The standard heavy barrel is not nescessary for what I want to use the gun for.

I am also looking into the possibility of buying a short barrel in .223, "12" and am aware that it would require reclassification but have been unable to find a source.

I have sent a couple emails to rob arm but these failed to elicit a response.

Any suggestions from the experts out there.

Thanks

Talk to wolverine supplies. Might beeasier to buy the 10" mini and sell your xcr l

Ian at Herron Arms rebarrels rifles, check him out. Also check with Dlask

I'm no expert, but, if I was in your position, I'd maybe ask someone like Wolverine. If the part exists made from Robarm they'd probably be the ones who could get it.
Sounds like it'd be a custom job to me otherwise. I wonder if ATRS would cut an XCR barrel? I'd shoot some emails out to the smiths who make barrels. Mystic Precision? Dlask?

From looking at the rob arms website, they list several barrel lengths available for the standard xcr-l ranging from 11" through to the 18.6".

I am just surprised that there hasn't been an interest in the light barrels among predator hunters here in Canada. I don't see the need for a heavy barrel when calling coyotes...... At least not in BC. Guys in the praries may have a different story:)

Well, even if there is an interest, probably not enough for Robarms to act on it. Not for the sake of Canada anyway. Most people, I think, buy the XCR for the NR factor, which means you're limited to the 18.6 or longer. If you got in rebarreled to restricted you could not hunt with it anymore, no ?
Meanwhile, I bet most people who use it for target shooting and most hunting appreciate the extra accuracy of the heavy barrel. Anyone interested in an R-CQB will just get an AR for half the price.

Fair enough. Just seems a shame not to utilize the quick change barrel feature even if only to switch from light to heavy 18.6" barrels. I see the light contour barrels discussed and available in the USA on the xcr forums. Not sure what kind of accuracy they are getting from them though.

Currently, your only option on the as supplied (.223/7.62X39/6.8) barrels is to do what I did....
You have to use a 'donor' barrel for the receiver extention as well as the gas system to 'graft' onto a new barrel.
I had Ian at Herron Arms make up a 'shorty' barrels in 7.62X39 as well as 6.5Grendel.
They are awesome to shoot, and function perfectly.
So....donor barrel + new barrel + Ian's time = desired weight/length/calibre barrel....Easy Peasy...and worth every penny...to me!
Shortening an existing barrel to less than 18.5" is creating a prohibited device....no go.

If you manage to get in touch with Robarm tell them to build a .22lr conversion kit ASAP!

Now your talking, what a great addition that would be...

With the quick change barrel system and a CMMG type drop in conversion would be a winner. (cheaper to practice with too :) )

Wolverine is working with RA on making some light weight 18.5" barrels for the Canadian market, so you just have to be a bit patient. as to restricted version Wolverine also offers both the Mini (10") and the Micro (7.5") versions, keep in mind the gas block is located further back and the pistons are shorter, so they will not work with a rifle length upper unless you chop down the handrail.

oh? herron does that?
uh-oh..I wonder if the donor gas block can fit around a barrel for .50 beowulf...
of course I'd need a new upper to get the ejection port enlarged and a 7.62x39mm bolt face... but, but, but... .50 beowulf! and non-restricted!

oh god. I'm having a minor meltdown. campcook. are you reading this???

This sounds promising but I wonder why they can't just import a handfull of the currently available light contour barrels from the USA. I don't see how a Canadian version would be nescrssary if the currently available ones are 18.6".

Thanks for the info in the micro and pistol but I would like to stick with the standard length gas set up.

Has anyone heard any update on the progress of the 300blk in the 18.6" barrels? I believe that rob arm was initially having problems with reliability switching between supersonic and subsonic loads. For Canada, I would be happy with an 18.6" 300 Li that cycles with super sonic only.

From what I have read on here, most guys aren't able to get much better than 2.5 moa plus out of the heavy barrels that are in country. I can't see the light contour barrel being any worse than that....or is it?
