So no takers? Am I to become the guinea pig? If so, I'll order 1 of each (regular and savage 10-rdrs) and compare. If I like'em, I'll order 2 more generics. In any case, it's $15 sacrificed in the name of science ;)

I didn't know anyone else made mags for the mkii.
I have 3 savage mags. The 5 rounder that came with mine which split open after ~100 rounds through it, and 2 10 rounders that have been working great for hundreds and hundreds of rounds each.

There is a thread here with lots of guys having trouble with savage 10 rnd mags, so I guess it's hit and miss on quality.

Thanks for steppin up!
Looking forward to your findings.

Generic Savage mags are news to me too.

First time I heard of them, too.. There are other makes for older Savage bolts that you could order from Brownells in the $10-15 range, but they won't work with the Mk II, but at least you know they're Wisners ht tp://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=7944/Product/22-RIMFIRE-CLIP-MAGAZINE

The expense is so minor that it's not that much of a sacrifice, but I will post a detailed review once the mags arrive and I can do a side-by-side

let us know which ones worked
i only have the 5 rounder that came with my mark II so i'm looking to order a few 10 round mags as well.

Ordered too late on Friday so chances are they'll get shipped out on Tuesday. Not soon enough for rifle night, but I might just make an extra trip out to the range. Worst case scenario, Wednesday the 17th.

It got shipped out today, but since I paid extra for Expresspost, it should arrive on Friday. Probably not hitting the range over the weekend, but next Wednesday should be a fun rifle night.

The mags arrived. One thing that jumped out at me on the generic mag was the metal follower, which I like but then I noticed that the spine of the mag doesn't have a tab that extends far enough to stop the mag, you can actually push it all the way up. So this one doesn't work with Mk II, probably only with Cooeys. Too bad as I like the metal follower. Rob at Wolverine was very helpful and quickly processed my RMA. Shipped it back today and they will replace it with a factory mag once it comes in. Verdict: Doesn't fit but great service from Wolverine anyway.

NO Cooeys will eat these mags.

Lakefield MkII (bolt, Savage's grandfather), and MkIII's(semi). Since Savage makes them still, it's not a great loss to the shooting world. At a buck or so difference vs. factory offerings, you won't be out too much either. Too bad though.

Good progress report, and follow up.

Factory magazines direct from savage are like $14(call them up and order). So, these aren't really necessary.

Did they look like that? Brownells can't ship them to Canada because the company isn't registered. So if that's what wolverine is stocking, that's great cause the only way to get 10rd magazines for older savages was to grind the protruded spine off the new mrk2 magazines. Savage 4c require magazines like the one pictured.

Had I known.. Doesn't matter now.. Already spent my cash and got my mags, plus a couple of extras at the range. Yes, the mag looked like this one.. Metal follower (protruding less than the red plastic), no spine so there was nothing to stop it from going all the way up.

That's great then, I'll see if I can get wolverine to market these accordingly, because their hard to find magazines for the older rifles.

so the official savage 10 rd ones worked, but the generic brand didn't fit properly?

Absolutely correct. The spring on the OEM mag is still a bit stiff, so I left the mag loaded, but it loaded and fed 10 snapcaps without any issues. The generic mag is missing a tab that would make it fit newer Savage rifles like the Mk II, but seems to be a God-send for the older ones.

Good idea. They are a great bunch of guys and this seems to be a product that's hard to get, so it's a win-win-win situation :)
