Will AR15 become NON RESTRICTED??

I know it's not allowed in SK. But it is in BC. It is also legal in may States. Other than that I have no idea. I tend to only follow hunting regs in provinces I hunt.....

Besides the fact that that ARs are chambered in calibers other than .223, noteably, 6.8 spc, .243, .308, 300 black/AAC, 338 fed etc. (pretty much if it fits into a short action you can get an AR to shoot it). Why are there calibre restrictions when hunting game? That was the point I was trying to make........
 
Considering they've made some rifles prohibited (ie the FAL), the AR is restricted, and newer black rifles are non-restricted for no real reason, I think the AR will either end up being prohibited, or it'll be non-restricted when I can order a G36c or an AK from Wolverine....

This is bang on. The Conservatives have done what they promised in removing the LGR but there is little for them to gain politically in doing anything else.

So the short answer is no. Non-restricting the AR is a complicated logistical Nightmare.

You just described the XCR. Except that the barrel on the AR doesn't swap out quite as easily as the XCR's
 
I would love to see the AR go non restricted but I would settle (for now) with being allowed to un-pin my 5/30 mags for use at the range.
We need to stop thinking logically if we want to understand how the government classifies firearms and also remember that there are so many people out there that think a military style rifle or a handgun can somehow load itself and fly around shooting people without an operator. They don't realize that it takes a person with ill intent behind that firearm for someone to be shot. They also don't realize that a firearm is a tool which can be used for good or bad depending on the person using it just like a knife, a baseball bat, or a 2x4.
At the place I work I am constantly thought of as the crazy gun guy because I own handguns and AR's, they say that handguns are designed to kill people and have no other use in the world. To you and I that is the stupidest statement ever but that mentality is out there.
People like that sadly seem to be the majority in this country and those are the same people the government wants to vote for them.
In my opinion the government should reduce the restrictions on all firearms and simply be more selective through the use of more in depth screening with who they allow to own any firearms.

I also happen to agree with the caliber restrictions on hunting (in most provinces), only because I have heard way too many hunters say that they would have no hesitation shooting at an elk at 500 or 600 yards with their Ruger 77 30-06 when I know they have only been out practicing a couple times since last hunting season and one of those times was 2 weeks ago to make sure they can still hit the gong at 100yds. If we let people with that attitude hunt with a .223 I think we would have a lot of wounded animals running around the bush dying a slow painful death.

perfectly said and i quote this for what i believe is absolutely true.

with that being said i believe the day the AR becomes non restricted if it ever does will be the day the gun makers remove all the plastic parts and replace them with wood parts. it will also be the same day they design it not to take a magazine by removing the magwell and it will also have to be the same time they change the action from semi automatic to single shot bolt action.

The "powerful Canadian Gun Lobby" needs to keeps our issues forefront whether or not we ever really expect any change.
You can't walk away and say, oh well, it ain't gonna happen.
As soon as you do the anti will creep in the cracks and further restrict what we already have.
The AR15 has been the subject of an on and off ban in the States, but only because they have a powerful gun lobby.
Otherwise it'd be all over for any type of civilian ownership.

I have a slightly different read on this.
If any party gives you EVERYTHING you ask for, the first time you ask for it, they will have nothing left to offer you next time around.
How are they supposed to bribe your vote and your donations of cash then?

The CPC promised to spike the registry and they did. (More or less anyway. Quebec isnt giving up, and the RCMP havent actually flushed the records, even though they turned to dog-chit the moment you could do a sale without notifying the CFC)

So, now we need to lean on the CPC to make some other needed changes to the Firearms Act. Let them know that votes and cash donations will follow meaningful changes.

Exactly. Cheryl is asking, we'd ALL do well not to sit on our hands, but ask. If anyone on this thread has any stones or sense they'd at least drop a 2 minute e-mail to Cheryl to request what they'd like. Otherwise, you're more part of the problem. If you just naysay and then be done while someone is lending an ear, how pathetic is that?

There are over 4 threads started on this, and she is asking what needs to be changed with the firearms act, so, get typing people, this is at least your best chance yet.
