leopould vs vortex

I used to own a dozen Leupold scopes, but I grew tired of the eye relief changing as I adjusted the magnification, so I sold them all off. There are several companies including Vortex, Bushnell, and others, that offer as good or better optics for less money. Yes there is some value in a good warranty, but not if you have to pay significantly more money, just to get quicker warranty service, that you will likely never need.

Ever think the changing eye relief, was in your eyes, not the scope. We all do not admit we are getting older, but that does not change the facts.i guess its easier for some..to get rid of what they think is the problem.Any mirrors left in your house?

If you don't notice the eye relief changing with a Leupold VX-3( or vx-1,vx-ii,vx-2,varix-2,varix-3, vx-iii, or rifleman, or most other Leupold variable scopes) then you most certainly do have issues with your eyes. Why do you suppose that Leupold actually lists the eye relief of their variable scopes at both minimum and maximum magnification on their site?

Another option I forgot to mention was Sightron, put them on my dads BP and .270 due to wearing glasses he had trouble with other brands, with these , way less issues, very easy to pick up an image and price vs quality is great.

Personally I have mainly Leupolds, I have one Redfield that I'am pleased with. A great scope for the money, and with the Leupold warrenty. Vortex I will try next as I have heard good things about them and looked at them in store.

Bushnell I would not touch with a ten foot pole. Had them in the past, warrenty is terrible despite claim on the hang tag. Had a friend email me the other day looking for scope advice as his 2yr old Bushnel would not adjust for elevation.

Since Epps is our local gunshop I advised he go there and pick out either a Leupold of Redfield. He went and picked out a new Bushnell, Epps installed it for him. Took it out back to the range and this one would not adjust vertically either. Epps gave him his money back and he is now the owner of a Redfield. Got his rifle all sighted in with no issues and he is now up trying to find a co-operative moose.
The only good thing about Bushnell scopes is the box it comes in. You take it home, open it up take out the scope and throw it in the garbage. Place the box on your dresser. Every night you put all your pocket change Loonies and Toonies in and when it gets full you head off and buy yourself a decent scope. And then you give the box to your grand kids to put there crayons in.

Now I realize those statements are going to raise some hackles. Get over it, as I have the realworld experience to back it up. I have been using scopes since the mid sixties. I have never had a good experience, nor any of my hunting/shooting companions with a Bushnell scope. They sell thousands of them because Bushnell has a fantastic maketing department, there available dam near everywhere, and the price is cheap.

My best adice to you young fella is to buy the very best quality scope you can possibly afford. As you will not regret it.

I think we have heard this story before. No?

Ya I was up in the air with that one too. Im searching for a better scope for my .300 win mag sako and so far the vortex viper has me over the leopold because I like the scope warranty and the price. Cant wait to make my purchase of a vortex viper i'm going to look at them again today and hoping going to buy it...

i saved my money and decided to buy something ive always wanted in a scope . a swarovski z3.

If you actually owned any variable Leupold scopes you would know that the changing eye relief is a fact(Leupold even states it), not a myth and not your eyes. The more you post on CGN the more I really wonder if you actually own any firearms at all.

f:P:

I've had both a Viper and a Rifleman. For the $ I felt the Vortex was a better (clearer) scope. That being said I have no problems/complaints about the leupold. Warranty is great for both companies.

lol... either you speak of things you know nothing about or you are quite simply a troll.... I vote troll

I would look at the Bushnell Elite's. Tons of scope for the money and easily comparable to any of the scopes that you have listed. I think Leopould make great stuff but they are way over priced (at least here in Canada).

Ive only ever used my mark 4 and have never been impressed with it because of the glass(everything else is good), if vortex was available at the time i would have spent about 600 less on a viper pst and had twice the scope. Ive looked through lots of glass and even a cheap nc star has better glass in my opinion. Ill never buy anything leupold again, there outdated and over priced.

I like the new Weaver scopes, if you can find them. I have one of their 2-10x38 Classic scopes on my Stevens 200. Very well built for the money IMO.
