Why are civi shooters so concerned with the word `sniper`

I only care, because as soon as something is labelled a "sniper" rifle, or an "assault" rifle, the media turns it into a circus, and tries to make gun owners look bad. Public opinion is effected by the media, and our governments make laws based on public opinion, so these media circuses are never in the best interest of gun owners.

I am a tactical marksmen or a precision shooter. I have a few associates who are snipers, and to call myself one is just insulting. Yes we go shooting together and my groups can be smaller, blah blah. The key with them is consistency. They do this, rain or shine. From all sorts of weird positions. I have attended and did very well at the BCRA tactical rifle match. It is called a tactical rifle match because that's what it is. We shoot prone and a few different positions from known distances. Is it fun, hell yes. Am I a sniper now, hell no. I didn't have to stalk anything, shoot at unknown distances by mil'ing targets and if I was unable to do something, accommodations were made.

Go watch top sniper, you can download it on iTunes. Awesome 4 piece set on a US sniper competition. The run, they have to use maps at night, people are hunting them, if they miss targets, half the time they are done, and a crazy stalk phase.

We call Olympians, Olympians because they compete at a certain level. Yes I can swim and run and bike and compete in a number of competitions, but I am still not an Olympian.

I also think that people can be quick to snap on the board at people who are clueless and just need a little education. I also think that people are trying to help educate people on here, but faceless, expressionless keyboards don't always convey the proper sentiment behind the words.

I didn't read the thread.... But dumbed down to its full extent, let me put it this way: If I own it, it's a precision rifle. When owned by a sniper, it becomes a sn
iper rifle.

If I own a crown Vic with a two-tone lblack and white paint job, is it a "police car"? It's the same vehicle that the cops drive, right?
It becomes a "police car" when the police own it. Just like the rifle: It becomes a "sniper rifle" when a military unit owns it.

If I call my rig a sniper rifle, will my #### fall off? :D

Everyone relax and shoot your rifles at your local Prov Rifle Associaton's matches! Get out and practice. Get away from the keyboards!

Have fun out there!

Cheers,
Barney

There's bigger things in the shooting world to get upset about.............It's more important just to get out and shoot!!!!!!

Only my closest friends at the time knew the details. Don't repeat it again incase someone takes a dislike to me and makes an accusation.

In this day and age there are ALLOT of people out there who scream "wolf" We've read enough stories on here about stuff. What you think is irrelavent. Its what others think that determine if you are given a hard time about owning firearms or not. I learned this the hard way. And I remember it.

Those that choose to use these words, sniper, assault weapon, etc... are part of the problem, just like dealers who use the same words to sell gear.

These words are fuel for the anti's, weather you want it or not we live in a Politically correct world. We should be smarter about our choice of terminology.

For one reason its fact. Unless a Sniper is using it, its not a sniper rifle. Unless it has full auto ability and is being used in that fashion then its not an assault rifle.

Antis don't really care what terminology we use. They make up their own terms to maximize the sensationalism. That is why any rifle that doesn't look like it's from a cowboy movie gets called an assault rifle...

The Blues Brothers had a cop car .;)

Exactly! Antis have one thing on their agenda and that is to take away our guns. Call it what ever you want, it wouldn't make any difference.
The media will do what they do. Boring news won't sell.

Funny......sniper is a pretty common hockey term!! LOL

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to spend some quality time in the gun room fondling my Saturday night special's, assault rifles, sniper rifles, breecher shotguns, entry guns, high cap/low cap/med cap magazines, weaponry, combat pistols, WMD's, tactical platforms, .............
