I saw Barneys new stock and I wanted one, but the wife GAURANTEED #### loss if I bought one :( so off to the chicken shed.
Its the old chinese stock chopped down and a Crapco grip and collapsible stock, 2 bolts and a crap load of JB weld.
Its just over 6 1/2 pounds with an empty mag :) You can see its sporting the long barrel at the moment, but the minute shes not lookin thats gonna change :)

Love it. Its really 6 1/2 lbs unloaded?[/QUOTE

I know !!!! I couldnt believe it meself, so I weighed it 4 or 5 times and looked to see what was missing. Its only bathroom scales but thats still a hell of a weight loss and it doesnt seem front heavy, centre of gravity about 1 1/2 inches in front of mag.
It works for me and I guess thats all that counts really.
But its nice to show pple yer #### wont fall off if ya do stuff yerself, and the money I saved will pay for the shorty the wife must NEVER know about...Bless her :)]

I didn't feel comfortable about asking, but now I'm sold! Thanks for posting!
Was that the Tapco Mini-14 stock?

No mate. Its just the collapsible butt and pistol grip from an old Tapco sks and the original plastic chinese stock.
Went together real quick, like less than 30 minutes from start to first slap together.Once you close yer eyes and cut the butt off the original stock, theres a nice opening that the Tapco stock fits into.............really too easy, expected more of a chew on.

I thought the Norc M14 action weighed 6 1/2 lbs all by itself...Hmmm seems too good to be true!

You are quite right and I stand corrected. I was only using the bathroom scales and found it hard to believe myself. So I just borrowed some digi scales and it comes out at 9lb 1/2 oz.......Apologies to all not my intent to deceive anyone. Even I thought it was TOO GOOD to be true....should have double checked first Sorry again.
I still like it tho :)

Here is the action coming in at 6lbs. with the CASM scope mount and a pair of iron sights (note the 22" barrel). It's a completely different rifle with a 18.5" barrel.

If you don't employ the "Hungry Welfare" method; yer #### will fall off!

Gotta love doing some "chicken shed" welfare mods. In the meantime, my wife is making fun of me while I'm doing my FNC1A1 parade square drills with my ICR m14DOCTOR CQB sling!

Good on ya for trying! The beauty of the Norc M14 platform, is that any improvement is decent!

Cheers,
Barney

How well do the iron sights line up with the new butt stock? Any neck skrunching going on?

I find the sight alignment better this way, but Im a big bugger and found the original stock to be uncomfortably small. But I was wrong about the weight........... :)Really I find it to be quite comfy and with a short barrel its gonna be quite handy.Even with the long barrel it swings around very nicely and there seems to be a lot more muzzle contol, if you know what I mean. Can swing it about and stop on target real quick....cant wait to try it out.
Meantime Im lookin very closely at what I can chop off the thing to get the weight down
This gun makes my ass look big...thats gonna change.

Fantastic job! Did you mount the buffer tube in with JB weld?

Buffer Tube eh...I knew there was a proper name for it.
In answer to your question Yes. There was enough meat left on the stock to drill into the "buffer tube" with two self tappers. Then dismantle, fill hole with JB weld, reassemble insert self tappers, flush fitting as possible
then with all the extra JB weld fill out and contour and gussy up the join area, takin care to remove the chicken feathers that WILL stick to the weld and could possibly lead to copyright infingement LOL except this would be a Whitefeather stock LOL.
I cant tell anyone what to do but really............its not rocket surgery. I would love one of the Docs stocks but Im also quite attached to my ####, so I have to adapt and overcome.
